Witness for Republicans Explains Why Impeaching Trump Would Be Wrong

WASHINGTON (AP) — A law professor and witness for the Republicans is explaining to lawmakers why he thinks impeaching President Donald Trump would be wrong. Jonathan Turley teaches at George Washington University and is one of four professors testifying Wednesday in the House impeachment inquiry. Turley tells members of the House Judiciary Committee that he thinks the impeachment proceedings are being rushed for no reason. Turley also says the evidence against Trump isn’t strong enough to meet the threshold of an impeachable offense. The other three professors who testified Wednesday disagreed, saying the evidence was there for impeachment.

Trump Dismisses Giuliani Calls with White House, OMB

WATFORD, England (AP) — President Donald Trump is dismissing the significance of repeated contacts between his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani and phone numbers linked to the White House and its budget office. Those contacts were revealed when the House intelligence committee released its impeachment report. Asked about the report and whether he still has confidence in Giuliani, Trump asked reporters “what difference” do the calls “make?” His comments come as the House Judiciary Committee begins its formal efforts to draft articles of impeachment against the president.

NATO Downplays Divisions as Infighting Roils Alliance

WATFORD, England (AP) — French President Emmanuel Macron described the NATO summit as “positive” and “constructive” _ despite earlier remarks in which he had lamented the “brain death” of the military alliance. Macron said in a news conference Wednesday that he stood by his controversial comments. He said they ignited a debate at NATO about important strategic issues, and that “when there’s ice, ice-breaker ships are needed.”

Ohio Abortion Bill Suggests Doctors Reimplant Ectopic Pregnancies

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio proposal aimed at outlawing abortions would present some doctors with a difficult choice. They’d either have to face potential criminal prosecution or attempt a procedure considered medically impossible. Under the Republican-sponsored bill, a doctor who terminates a pregnancy could face murder charges unless it’s done to save a woman’s life. But the bill also says doctors could be prosecuted if they fail to do whatever they can to preserve the pregnancy. And that would include trying to move a fertilized egg into the uterus if it implanted elsewhere. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists says that simply cannot be done.

Deadly Defect Found in Another Version of Takata Airbags

DETROIT (AP) — Investigators have found new and distinct problems with air bags made by Takata, the company that manufactured air bags that have lead to the deaths of at least 24 people. One person has died from the recently discovered issue and BMW is telling owners of some older 3-series cars to stop driving them. The company is adding about 1.4 million front driver inflators to recalls in the U.S., according to government documents posted Wednesday. Included are more than 116,000 BMW 3-Series cars from the 1999 to 2001 model years. About 8,000 definitely have faulty inflators and should be parked, BMW said. The rest can still be driven.
