AAA: Pennsylvania Gas Prices Continue to Plunge; Crude Hits 18-Year Low

Pennsylvania gas prices continue to plunge as crude oil prices hit an 18-year low. After falling by 12 cents last week, the average price of gasoline across Western Pennsylvania is another 13 cents cheaper this week at $2.36 per gallon. That’s according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report. This morning on Teleforum, Frank Sparks spoke with AAA’s Jim Garrity, who was asked if he believes this trend will continue…

Garrity noted the irony in the fact that drivers aren’t even able to take advantage of these cheap gas prices because of the restrictions in travel during the coronavirus crisis…

Motorists can find current gas prices nationwide, statewide, and countywide at GasPrices.AAA.com.

“History doesn’t repeat itself, but it sure does rhyme.”

That quote, while disputed in origin of claim (most say it’s Mark Twain), was the focal point of the conversation between Dr. Todd Allen, communication professor and special assistant to the president at Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, and Matt Drzik, host of A.M. Beaver County on March 24.

The two Geneva College graduates and Beaver Falls alumni spoke about how the current coronavirus pandemic is having an effect on college education, the role of race in the 2020 election, Dr. Allen’s continued teaching of values and history regarding civil rights, and the role of faith in everyday life.

Stocks slump, despite Fed aid, as virus bill stalls again
By STAN CHOE, DAMIAN J. TROISE and ALEX VEIGA AP Business Writers
NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are ending another bumpy day broadly lower on Wall Street as investors wait to see if Democrats and Republicans can settle their differences on an economic rescue package. Major indexes ended down about 3% Monday, having been down as much as 5%. Earlier, markets got a bump following the latest announcement of support from the Federal Reserve. The Fed said it would buy as much government debt as needed to help markets operate smoothly and lend money to businesses and local governments, but the gains quickly vanished. Markets are likely to remain volatile as long as the coronavirus outbreak accelerates.

Wolf issues stay-at-home order for hardest-hit counties
By MARK SCOLFORO and MICHAEL RUBINKAM undefined
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Gov. Tom Wolf is ordering residents of Pennsylvania’s hardest-hit areas to stay home to help combat the spread of the new coronavirus that has sickened hundreds and caused six deaths statewide. He also shuttered schools statewide for an additional two weeks. Noting that Philadelphia already ordered residents to remain home, Wolf issued the stay-at-home order for the counties around the city; for Allegheny County, which includes Pittsburgh; and for Monroe County in the Pocono Mountains. Those counties account for 75% of Pennsylvania’s confirmed cases of COVID-19. Wolf has imposed progressively tougher measures as state officials say the pandemic threatens to swamp hospitals and spike the death toll.

Dr. Anthony Fauci Says He Can’t Stop Trump from Talking at Briefings

WASHINGTON (AP) — Dr. Anthony Fauci says he can’t jump in front of the microphone to stop President Donald Trump from speaking at daily White House briefings on the coronavirus outbreak. Fauci told Science magazine in an interview Sunday that Trump listens even though they disagree on some things. One thing they disagree on is Trump’s complaint that China should have told the world earlier about the virus. Fauci says he told the “appropriate people” after Trump made the comment that it “didn’t comport.” But Fauci says if Trump repeats he “can’t jump in front of the microphone and push him down.”
