The City of Pittsburgh today canceled the St. Patrick’s Day parade, citing concerns over the “rapid spread of COVID-19 virus.” The parade, which was scheduled for Saturday, is yet another holiday parade being eliminated due to the coronavirus outbreak. Pittsburgh joins Boston, Chicaco, Dublin, Ireland, Philadelphia and San Francisco among cities that have canceled their festivities. The city said it is following recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to avoid mass gatherings and observe social distancing. The city said it informed parade organizers about the cancellation this morning. So far, there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 in Allegheny County, but 14 cases have been reported statewide, according to the Pennsylvania Health Department.

Beaver Valley Choral Society Set For Lenten Concerts, Celebrating 100 Years In 2020
Few people and institutions get to share in the glory of turning 100. Even fewer get to do so in such a glorious and busy fashion.
The Beaver Valley Choral Society is one of them.
BVCS Associate Director Sharon Burchill & BVCS President Lee Pfeifer joined Matt Drzik on A.M. Beaver County to discuss the upcoming schedule for the Choral Society, beginning with their Lenten/Easter series of shows entitled “Depth Of Mercy”. Shows begin March 28, and the full schedule can be viewed on their website.
The two also announced the return of the BVCS Summer Academy held at (and in conjunction with) the Rochester Area School District. The Academy gives students a chance to take a crash course in vocal performance, instrumental jazz, music technology, and more. Full details can be seen here.
And if that wasn’t busy enough, the Choral Society is heading to New York City for 5 days in November, as they were selected by Distinguished Concerts International New York City to perform at Carnegie Hall on November 16. Lee & Sharon talk about how the BVCS is honored to have this performance, one that will require several days of practice before the performance with full orchestra.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Evgeni Malkin scored two goals and set up another to lead the slumping Pittsburgh Penguins to a 5-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils. Evan Rodrigues and defensemen Justin Schultz and Kris Letang also scored as the Penguins won for only the third time in 11 games. Matt Murray made 20 saves to help Pittsburgh reach 40 wins for the seventh straight season and 13th time since 2006-07. The only exception was the 48-game lockout-shortened season in 2012-13. Joe Biden has another big primary night, wins 4 more states
By WILL WEISSERT and LAURIE KELLMAN Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) — Joe Biden has had another big night in the Democratic presidential primary, capturing four more states, including Michigan. The key battleground state helped propel Bernie Sanders’ insurgent candidacy four years ago, and the loss on Tuesday dealt a serious blow to his 2020 campaign. The former vice president also won Missouri, Mississippi and Idaho, showing strength with working-class voters and African American voters. Sanders’ narrow hopes for good news rested on North Dakota and Washington state, where votes are still being tabulated. Addressing supporters in Philadelphia, Biden noted that many had “declared that this candidacy was dead” only days ago, but “now we’re very much alive.”
