John “Dean” Bosh (1939-2024)

John “Dean” Bosh, 84, of Ambridge, passed away at home on August 6, 2024. He was born on December 21, 1939, the son of the late Frank and Anna Bosh. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings; Sam, Bob, Denny, Tony, Bernadette Bosh, and Mary “Toots” McGoff, as well as his sisters-in-law, Pat Bosh, Mary Bosh, and Mariellen Rollins. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Suzanne Dancison-Bosh; his children, Lori Bosh, Lisa (Craig) Bosh-Ketterer, Michael Bosh and fiancée Jena Simpson, Linda Bosh, and Rose Bosh, his siblings Joanne (Dick) Yakich, Daniel (Lillian) Bosh, Antonette Bosh and Jim, Mitch (Sherry) Bosh, and twin brother James (Cindy) Bosh, grandchildren Ashlee (Tony) Allis, Nathan Bosh, Mareena and Brayden Ketterer, Meg and Mia Simpson, and great-grandchildren Emma and Leo Allis, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. John proudly served in the United States Army. A dedicated Pittsburgh sports fan, he enjoyed visits to the casino, horse racing, and golf. He cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In accordance with his wishes, arrangements are private and his services and obituary are entrusted to Alvarez Hahn Funeral Services and Cremation LLC of Ambridge.

Free potassium iodide tablets to be distributed Thursday, Aug. 22 at Mall

MONACA, Aug. 14 – State Rep. Rob Matzie, D-Beaver, is encouraging Beaver County residents to stop by the Beaver Valley Mall’s Center at the Mall in Monaca between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22 for the state’s annual distribution of free potassium iodide tablets.

“Nuclear power is one of safest energy sources available, with multiple systems designed into modern plants that make the risk of an injury-causing accident extremely rare,” Matzie said. “But it still makes sense to take every precaution, which is why the state distributes free potassium iodide tablets each year to residents living within 10 miles of the state’s four active power plants, including Beaver Valley Power Station.

“The Department of Health will be distributing tablets between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22 at Center at the Mall, inside Beaver Valley Mall in Monaca. I encourage everyone to stop by for that extra peace of mind that comes with knowing you and your family are fully prepared.”

Matzie said the distribution will take place at Unit #284 of the mall, which is located at 570 Beaver Valley Mall Blvd. in Monaca. Residents may request tablets for family members or others who are unable to get the tablets on their own.

Residents unable to attend the Aug. 22 event may also obtain tablets at the Beaver County State Health Center located at 3582 Brodhead Road in Monaca. The center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and can be reached at 724-774-1385.

City of Aliquippa hiring police officer and firefighter

(Aliquippa, Pa) Applications for both positions can be picked up at the city building  located at 581 Franklin Avenue from 9am to 3pm Monday through Friday. Applications are due by Monday, August 26, 2024.

There is no fee for the police officer applications. Base pay is $45,468.80. Act 120 and the state exam are required. A $35 fee is required for the firefighter application, a valid driver’s license and firefighter 2 certification, as well as a current EMT certification is required. Applicants must pass a  written and oral interview, physical agility and drug test to qualify.

Hopewell Area School District hires staff and announces retirements

(Hopewell Township, Pa) At Tuesday night’s work session Rosetta Dufalla’s retirement was announced.  She was an English teacher, Deborah Ross retired from Margaret Ross Elementary School, where she taught special education. One paraprofessional resigned  who worked at the junior high school.

Two senior high school science teachers were hired , and seven paraprofessionals were hired, 3 for Hopewell Elementary School, 2 for Independence elementary School, and 2 for the junior high school. Two bus drivers resigned and one was hired.
Morgan Metzger was hired as the school district psychologist. She will begin her duties once released from her current job and  her clearances are received by the district. Brabdt Dykstra was hired as an elementary art teacher effective on August 19, 2024.
The regular school board meeting will be held on Tuesday, august 26, 2024 at 7 p.m. in the board room.

Thomas Andrew Beaudry (1961-2024)

Thomas Andrew Beaudry, 63, of New Galilee, Pennsylvania, passed away on August 3, 2024.

He was born on January 24, 1961 in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Tom is survived by his mother Jean Beaudry, a sister Lori Ann Phillips, Brother Mark Beaudry, and a daughter Tina Beaudry and two nephews, Justin Scott and Tyler Scott.. He was preceded in death by his father Andrew Beaudry.

Tom was a resident of New Galilee for the past 20 years. A member and Deacon at The Galilean Presbyterian Church.

Tom loved playing his guitar and toured with several bands. He was employed as a security guard working for several agencies in the area. Tom also enjoyed working with computers. He became very proficient at programing and developed a number of computer games and was willing to help anyone who had a problem with their computer.

Funeral arrangements are by the Gabauer Funeral Home, New Brighton, and there will be no viewing. A memorial service will be at 7 P.M. on Wednesday August 14 at The Galilean Presbyterian Church New Galilee, Pennsylvania with Chaplin Gary Brown presiding.

Valerie Lynn Kaleugher (1960-2024)

Valerie Lynn Kaleugher, 63, passed away August 11, 2024 in Pittsburgh. She was born October 18, 1960 in Ambridge. She is preceded in death by her father, Leo Kaleugher, and her nephew, Adam Kaleugher. She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Kaleugher, her sister, Victoria Kaleugher, and her three children, Brandon Shar, Matthew Shar, and Kelli Llano. She graduated from Ambridge High School and Penn State University. She was a photographer who loved capturing life’s moments. She was an avid football fan who cheered on Penn State on Saturdays and the Steelers on Sundays. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 16 at 11:00 AM in the Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, 273 PA-68, Rochester. A luncheon will follow at the Baden United Methodist Church at 1 P.M.

Leila Paige Baker (1934-2024)

Leila Paige Baker, 89, of New Sewickley Township, passed away August 13, 2024 at her home. She was born on November 8, 1934 in Rock Land, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late William and Iva (Neeley) Brandon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Frank and Lois Cordes, two brothers, Norman L. Brandon and Joseph W. Brandon, two grandchildren, Dean Baker and Jeremy Phipps, two sisters-in-law, Edna and Martha and a brother-in-law Richard.She is survived by her husband of 70 years, John Jake Baker. She is also survived by one daughter and son-in-law Marjory M. (Danny) Phipps, New Sewickley Township, three sons and daughters-in-law, John K. (Nancy) Baker of Freedom, Timothy C. (Dixie) Baker and Carl L. (Karen) Baker, all of New Sewickley Township, ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter survive, two brothers-in-law, Sam and Robert Baker, and numerous nieces and nephews.She was a homemaker and housewife and a member of the New Sewickley Presbyterian Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and taught the Good News Club Children’s Bible Study. Leila was a Deacon and Youth Group Leader within the church. She was a former Cub Scout Den Mother with Troop 414 New Sewickley Township. Friends will be received Thursday August 15 from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. in the William Murphy Funeral Home, Inc., 349 Adams Street, Rochester and Friday August 16 from 10 A.M. until time of service at 11 A.M. in the New Sewickley Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be her pastor Rev. Beth Wierman. Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park. The family wishes to thank Tammy who stayed with Mom and gave her care and comfort for the last four months.

Nancy Marie Stewart (1952-2024)

Nancy Marie Stewart, 72, of West Columbia, West Virginia, passed away on August 9, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Born January 20, 1952, in Beaver Falls, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Diana Palyash Granati. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Linda Evans; and grandson, Kirk Stewart.

She is survived by her loving husband, William J. Stewart; four children, Edward (Lisa) Labon, Janea (Mike) Eichman, Scott (Bernadette) Stewart, and Heather (Derek) Malky; eight grandchildren, Madison (Austin) Maddox, Anthony Malky, Kira Labon, Dylan Eichman, Zachary (Lydia) Labon, Samantha Eichman, Connor Stewart, and Karl Stewart; great-grandchild, Iris Maddox; and three sisters, Marlene (Chuck) Huntington, Laureen Johnson, and Julie (Dudley) Cupac.

During her time on this earth, Nancy found joy and solace in the simple pleasures of life. Her love for slot machines and bingo brought light to many days, and she always cherished the moments spent with her grandchildren, creating many memories. Nancy also had a passion for exploring new places and going on vacation, always seeking new adventures and experiences.

Friends will be received for a memorial visitation Friday from 2 P.M. to 6 P.M. with a blessing service being held at 4 P.M. in the Hill and Kunselman Funeral Home, 3801 Fourth Avenue, Beaver Falls.

Edward W. Schreiber (1939-2024)

Edward W. Schreiber, 84, of Moon Township, passed away at home on August 12, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born on October 15, 1939, to the late Colin Boone-Schreiber and Sarah (Leister) Schreiber.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his brother, John C. Schreiber (Jack/Skinny), and his sister, Dorothy Bevan (Dot).

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Marie C. (DeSantis) Schreiber; two sons, Paul Matthew Schreiber (Lora) and Mark Edward Schreiber (Jeanne), all of Moon Township; four grandchildren, Morgan E. Gremba (Benjamin), Matthew R. Schreiber (Vanessa), Colin C. Schreiber (fiancé Shanna), and Jessica M. McKown (Bailey); and three great-grandchildren, Ember, Oswyn, and Luke.

Ed was a 1957 graduate of McDonald High School. He furthered his education at Waynesburg College and the University of Pittsburgh, and conducted doctoral research in biology at the University of Central Michigan’s Beaver Island Biological Station.

For 35 years, Ed made a significant impact teaching biology at Quaker Valley School District. Beyond the classroom, he was involved in coaching track and football, and he officiated swimming for 50 years.

Outside of his professional life, Ed cherished time with his wife, whom he affectionately called his girlfriend, and his family. He was an avid gardener, fisherman, and hunter, and he enjoyed feeding the neighborhood. Ed and his brother Jack also shared a passion for genealogy, dedicating countless hours to their research.

A dedicated member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church for 54 years, Ed served on the Church Council and was a past president of the Sons of the American Revolution.

Friends will be received on Friday, August 16th, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Huntsman Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Moon Township (1522 Coraopolis Heights Rd.), and on Saturday, August 17th, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew Lutheran Church of Moon Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Washington Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution or the Light of Life Rescue Mission.

Dorothy Palmer (1928-2024)

Dorothy Palmer, 96, formerly of Baden, passed away on August 12, 2024. She was born on June 3, 1928, and was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert V. Palmer. She is survived by her sister, Estelle Sudar of Avon Lake, Ohio and many nieces and nephews. She was passionate about sewing and gardening, and was renowned for her exceptional baking skills, particularly her wedding cakes. Dorothy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. In accordance with her wishes, her arrangements are private, and her obituary and arrangements have been entrusted to Alvarez Hahn Funeral and Cremation Services of Ambridge.
