McKees Rocks Bridge Lane Restrictions Tuesday in McKees Rocks

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing lane restrictions on Route 3014 (McKees Rocks Bridge) in McKees Rocks Borough, Allegheny County, will occur Tuesday, December 6 weather permitting.

Single-lane alternating traffic will occur on the McKees Rocks Bridge at the Helen Street on- and off-ramps as needed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday. Crews will repair a damaged inlet on the bridge. Bi-directional traffic will be maintained and flaggers will assist motorists through the work zone.

Phase 2 of the $22.4 million McKees Rocks Bridge preservation project extends between Route 51 (Island Avenue) and Route 65 (Ohio River Boulevard) and includes sidewalk repairs and replacement, full-depth concrete pavement reconstruction of the road and four ramps at Helen Street, ADA curb ramp installation, approach pavement work at intersections of Routes 65 and 51, barrier repair, deck overhang and spall repair, fencing installation, and other miscellaneous construction. As work occurs, traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction, with occasional truck and turning-lane detours occurring at the West End Bridge as needed. The overall project is anticipated to conclude in the fall of 2024.

The Brayman Construction Corporation and Advantage Steel and Construction, LLC are the prime contractor.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles, including color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles, by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional twitter alerts accessible on the 511PA website.

US Labor Department Finds Child Labor Violations By Operator of 13 Greater Pittsburgh McDonald’s

(Pittsburgh, Pa.) A federal investigation has found child labor violations involving 101 minor-aged workers at 13 McDonald’s locations in the greater Pittsburgh area operated by Santonastasso Enterprises LLC, based in Bridgeville.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division determined the franchisee, which operates as McDonald’s Restaurant, permitted 14-and-15-year-old employees to work outside permissible hours. These violations included allowing them to work as follows:

  • More than 3 hours per day and after 7 p.m. on school days when the law forbids work beyond that time.
  • Later than 9 p.m. on days between June 1 and Labor Day, when they may legally work until 9 p.m.
  • More than 8 hours on a non-school day, and more than 18 hours a week during a regular school week.

These failures led to violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

“Permitting young workers to work excessive hours can jeopardize their safety, well-being and education,” explained Wage and Hour District Director John DuMont in Pittsburgh. “Employers who hire young workers must understand and comply with federal child labor laws or face costly consequences.”

Investigators also found a violation of child labor occupations standards at the 100 Davis Blvd. location in Pittsburgh.  A minor under the age of 16 was allowed to operate a deep fryer, which was not equipped with a device to automatically lower and raise the baskets.

Santonastasso Enterprises LLC – owned by John and Kathleen Santonastasso – paid a civil money penalty of $57,332 assessed by the division for the violations.

Rare Our Lady of Guadalupe Digitized Photo On Display at St. John Baptist Church in Monaca

(Monaca, Pa.) A rare digitized photo of Our Lady of Guadalupe is being featured at St. John Baptist Church in Monaca. The picture is one of four exact digitized replicas of the image in the world.
The Church will have the photo on display Monday, December 5, 2022 and Tuesday, December 6, 2022  from 9AM to 7PM and Wednesday 9:00 AM-4:00 PM day.

Our Lady of Guadalupe holds a special place in the religious life of Mexico and is one of the most popular religious devotions. Her image has played an important role as a national symbol of Mexico.

According to tradition, Mary appeared to Juan Diego, who was an Aztec convert to Christianity, on December 9 and again on December 12, 1531. During her first apparition she requested that a shrine to her be built on the spot where she appeared, Tepeyac Hill (now in a suburb of Mexico City). The bishop demanded a sign before he would approve construction of a church, however. Mary then appeared a second time to Juan Diego and ordered him to collect roses. In a second audience with the bishop, Juan Diego opened his cloak, letting dozens of roses fall to the floor and revealing the image of Mary imprinted on the inside of the cloak—the image that is now venerated in the Basilica of Guadalupe.

Fire Crews Called to 11th Avenue in New Brighton Sunday Night

(New Brighton, Pa.) Beaver County Radio’s Keith Walsh is reporting that fire crews were called to a New Brighton home in the 400 block of 11th Ave. shortly after 10:30PM last night.
There is no word on what caused the fire. Walsh said that he spoke with a neighbor who said that a man, a woman, and girl lived there along with some dogs.
Walsh said that when he arrived on scene heavy smoke could be seen coming from the house.
New Brighton Fire Department was assisted on the scene by Beaver Falls, Daugherty Twp., and Rochester Fire Departments.

Two Beaver County Catholic Parishes To Merge

(Pittsburgh, Pa.) The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh announced that two Beaver County Parishes will merge to form one new larger one. Saint Blaise which is currently home to worshipers from Midland and Saint Monica that covers the area of Beaver Falls, Chippewa and Darlington will merge to form a new parish known as the St. Augustine Parish on January 2 of next year. The reason for the merger was to make resources easier for both parishes.
Bishop David Zubik said in a release that “Your priests and deacon have worked diligently in service to you and to God throughout this process, and I am deeply grateful for their care and leadership. I am equally grateful to each of you for your collaborative efforts. In and through your work together you have positioned your new parish to be a beacon of evangelization and mission in Beaver County.
The Diocese of Pittsburgh will go from 63 parishes to 62.

6th Annual Rochester Christmas Carol Sing & Light Up Night Brings The Joy Of The Season To Beaver County

How can an event that took place last year be happening for the first time in three years?

Well, after a year of absence and another outdoors, the 6th Annual Rochester Christmas Carol Sing & Light Up Night returned to the indoor confines of Rochester Area High School, who hosted and organized the event along with the Beaver Valley Choral Society. The event was co-sponsored by the RASD, Rome Monument, and the Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe.

The event was wall-to-wall (quite literally) with Christmas decorations and activities for the whole family, including the fully costumed re-telling of The Night Before Christmas, carol singing with the Beaver Valley Choral Society, taking a walk through the Christmas Candy Garden to Santa’s workshop, and so much more. The big man himself arrived courtesy of the Rochester Volunteer Fire Department, following an opening ceremony featuring the presentation of the colors by the JROTC and the singing of the National Anthem followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. All of this leading to what is now the night skies of the borough of Rochester lit up in Christmas lights as the echoes of the Christmas carols add sound to the light of the holiday season.

Plus, Beaver County Radio’s Matt Drzik and Daniel Campbell, along with Mark Peterson, were live at Rochester High School to capture the spirit and song of the day’s events. The Personality Prize Wheel was spun all throughout the day, with winners receiving prizes from Rochester Dairy Queen. Coverage of the broadcast was presented in partnership with the William Murphy Funeral Home and aformentioned Rochester DQ.
