(Aliquippa, Pa.) The Pennsylvania State Police released the name of the Pa State Trooper who was shot in the leg while on patrol early Friday morning. State Police said via release that Troopers Jonnie Schooley and Shawn Palmer responded to a disturbance just after midnight while on patrol at the Franklin Avenue Mini Mart.
According to the criminal complaint Damian Ray Bradford, 41 of Pittsburgh was involved in a disturbance that involved him confronting subjects outside the mini mart . He was identified , was brandishing a pistol, followed subjects who ran into the store and threatened them. Bradford exited the store with the pistol and confronted a male.
Troopers Schooley and Palmer observed the disturbance, stopped and approached the store on foot, encountering Bradford inside. He became combative, fleeing toward the rear of the store.
As troopers attempted to gain control, Bradford accessed his pistol , shooting Trooper Schooley in the leg. Troopers were able to disarm him, he continued to fight attempting to take control of palmer’s firearm and taser.
Trooper Schooley was transported to a Pittsburgh hospital for a significant gunshot wound to the leg that caused significant blood loss.
A 9mm semi-automatic pistol was recovered on the floor in the area where Trooper Schooley was shot. Bradford was convicted for a federal crime in 2006, stalking which prohibits him from possessing firearms in Pennsylvania.
He is lodged in the Beaver County Jail on criminal homicide aggravated assault charges, disarming law enforcement officer without lawful authorization, recklessly endangering another person five counts, resisting arrest, possession of firearm prohibited, and assault of law enforcement officer.
