(Beaver Falls, Pa.) It looks like Beaver Falls will have a new mayor as newcomer Kenya Johns has defeated incumbent Mayor George Quay on the Democratic Primary Ticket. Johns has 54.83% of the vote compared to Quay’s 45.04%. Johns has received 392 votes to Quay’s 322 votes. The numbers reflect all in-person, mail-in and absentee ballots cast in the county.
John’s is a professional licensed counselor and educator. she is set to become the first first Black woman elected Beaver Falls mayor in the city’s 153-year history. Quay was appointed Mayor by City Council in 2012 and has held that position since then.
No one filed to run on the Republican ticket but there were 79 write in votes.
Once the Provisional Ballots are counted it is expected that John’s will run un-apposed in the fall.
