A zoo worker at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort was attacked by a bear while guiding a routine safari tour Saturday morning, officials from Nemacolin confirmed. Officials say a Himalayan bear reached through a wire fence, pulled the woman closer and bit her arm. The worker was in between two layers of fencing at the bear enclosure when the incident occurred. She was flown by medical helicopter to an area trauma center at a local hospital. A spokesperson from West Virginia University Medical Center confirmed that the woman, whose name is not being released, is now in critical condition at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. Nemacolin has ensured the bear enclosure is completely secure and is arranging optional counseling for guests and staff who witnessed the incident, officials said in a press release. Officials say the bear has not been put down. The Pennsylvania Game Commission said the bear was separated to a different pen.
