(Beaver Falls, PA) One of the most treasured landmarks in Beaver Falls is now beginning a new chapter under a new name.

The Carnegie Free Library of Beaver Falls, which was an establishment opened in 1903 through the generosity of industrialist Andrew Carnegie, is entering a period of preservation and revitalization under this name: the H. R. Smith – Carnegie Library & Event Center.

This name recognizes the generosity of H. R. Smith, whose private support is making the long-overdue preservation of this Beaver Falls landmark possible, while keeping the Carnegie name and its legacy of 123 years at the center of the
building’s identity.

The library’s Board of Trustees is exploring plans to restore the building’s historic hall, as well as improve its event facilities and create new opportunities for cultural, community and educational activities.

An architect has started working with this board to evaluate the potential of the building and develop concepts for its future.

The original Carnegie glass that is above the main entrance has been carefully removed and preserved as part of the transition.

It will be incorporated into a permanent historical display that will be inside the building.

New entrance lettering will also feature both the Carnegie and H. R. Smith names.
