(Pittsburgh, PA) According to a source as well as a report yesterday morning from NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Pittsburgh Steelers are signing veteran cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting off of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ practice squad.
He will now join the 53-man roster of the Steelers.
The twenty-nine-year-old Murphy-Bunting has played for the Buccaneers, the Tennessee Titans, and most recently, the Arizona Cardinals.
He was a second-round draft pick in the 2019 NFL draft by the Buccaneers, and he has recorded 11 career interceptions in 82 NFL games, with 65 of those games being starts.
Murphy-Bunting won Super Bowl LV (55) with the Buccaneers in 2020 and one of his teammates on that team was cornerback Jamel Dean, who is currently playing for the Steelers.
This signing of Murphy-Bunting comes not too long after the Dallas Cowboys traded for former Steelers cornerback Joey Porter, Jr. last week.
Porter was in a dispute over a new contract with the Steelers before the trade, and the team’s policy is that the team cannot negotiate with its players during the NFL regular season.
