(Shippingport, PA) A groundbreaking was held on Thursday for a new data center complex in Shippingport.  

Aligned Data Centers confirmed that this complex is called the Project Phoenix, and this is a 2GW (gigawatt) Data center campus which is expected to support 3,000 jobs in construction and drive $10 billion in regional economic investment. 

According to a release from Aligned Data Centers, the campus will be built on the former Bruce Mansfield coal-fired power plant site in the Shippingport Industrial Park and the three-building campus will transform dormant industrial infrastructure into a major digital infrastructure hub.

Aligned Data Centers also confirmed that the facility features a closed-loop cooling system that requires no water for operational cooling, it will create more than 640 full-time operational roles and it will serve as an example of responsible data center development in Pennsylvania, to align with Governor Josh Shapiro’s Responsible Infrastructure Development (GRID) framework and Ratepayer Protection Pledge.
