(Beaver, PA) Several topics were discussed today at the Beaver County Commissioners’ work session at the County Courthouse.
Beaver County Recreation and Tourism Director Tony Caltury reminded the public of a big local event that will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America.
That event is the America250 parade which will take place on 3rd Street in Beaver on Saturday, September 19th at 10 a.m.
Entertainment, family-friendly activities, and learning about history will continue at Fort McIntosh on River Road after the parade is over.

County Solicitor Garen Fedeles talked about a local online tax sale that occurred yesterday during the Solicitors’ report.
About $1.3 million in sales happened, and Fedeles says that this is “a little bit above what we normally get.”
Fedeles also noted that the appeal period window for people who want to file assessment appeals that would be effective for the following year has closed.
However, he stated that there are 782 appeals that are working their way through a three-person board to get appealed.
A time capsule for Beaver County for this year will also be on display at the county courthouse next Wednesday, September 16th at 10 a.m. at the Commissioners’ work session and photo opportunities will be available.
According to Fedeles, that time capsule will be unveiled to the public and more information will come out about it moving forward to dedicate it at the end of the year with the anticipation of a time capsule 50 years later (America300) to be open at a public meeting at that time.
Fedeles noted that there are 23 resolutions for tomorrow, and these included assisting Beaver County Behavioral Health and and emergency services units agreements.
One of the other topics discussed was when Commissioner Jack Manning advised the public at the session that the 25th anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City is this Friday during the Commissioners’ report.
Manning encouraged county residents and beyond to “never forget” these events.
There will also be an event at the Gazebo in Beaver at around 4 p.m. as part of the 9/11 Let’s Roll Memorial Ceremony to honor those who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001 in New York City.
