Beaver County Christian School: August 25th. What’s new: There are several new teachers and staff in new positions this year. Hope Mimitz will be a fifth-grade teacher, Ed Braddock will teach life science, David Bordy is a new music teacher and will also direct the middle and high school chorus and ensembles, Ben Jones will teach middle school history and Bible, Laura Masters is elementary educator support services coordinator, Amber Cable is now a kindergarten teacher and Colleen Partridge is an elementary learning support paraprofessional.
Beaver County Career and Technology Center: August 24th.
Big Beaver Falls Area School District: August 24th. What’s new: “Meet the Teacher Night” will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on August 19th at both the Beaver Falls Middle School and the Beaver Falls High School.
Blackhawk School District: August 19th. What’s new: Five new teachers are joining the district for the 2026-27 school year. Bridget Sweterlitsch will be the high school’s certified school nurse and Carrie Moll will be the certified school nurse at Blackhawk Intermediate School; Alex Ward joins the high school faculty as a physical education teacher; Kristina Coscarelli is a special education teacher at the intermediate school and Samantha Finch will teach third grade at the intermediate school.
Cornell School District: August 24th.
Ellwood City Area School District: August 31th. What’s new: “Meet the Teacher Night” is scheduled from 3-5 p.m. August 27th for students and families at the district’s Lincoln Junior/Senior High School, Hartman and Perry Lower Intermediate schools and the North Side Primary School. Seventh grade orientation takes place from 6-7:30 p.m. August 24th at the high school, with an introduction in the Sgt. Leslie H. Sabo Jr. Memorial Auditorium followed by a building tour.
Freedom Area School District: August 25th. What’s new: The district is looking for applicants to fill a seat on the school board (click here for more information). The individual selected will serve an unexpired term through December 2029. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and have lived in the school district for at least one year. A letter of interest and resume must be submitted by 3 p.m. Aug. 20 to Superintendent Jeff Beltz.
Hopewell Area School District: August 20th. What’s new: The district has a new logo and has published new social media pages on Facebook for the Hopewell High School, Hopewell Memorial Junior High and the HASD elementary schools (a combined page for the Margaret Ross, Hopewell and Independence elementary schools). Parents and students are encouraged to follow these new pages for school information. A new website is also under construction and will be located at the same address, hopewellarea.org (click here to access).
Midland Borough School District: August 26th. What’s new: A “Meet the Teacher Night” for the Midland Elementary- Middle School is scheduled from 5-6:30 p.m. Aug. 24th at the school, 173 Seventh Street in Midland.
Moon Area School District: August 25th. What’s new: The Richard J. Hyde Academy officially opened on August 18th. An extension of the high school’s life skills program, the Hyde Academy Transition Program teaches students skills for independent living after high school, including vocational training, resume preparation and job interviews, money management and more.
New Brighton Area School District: August 26th. What’s new: Lotus, the therapy dog for the district’s counseling department, has plans to visit the high school each week in the coming school year.
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic High School: August 20th.
Quaker Valley School District: Grades K-9 start on August 26th, grades 10-12 start on August 27th. What’s new: The district launched an updated website in July at qvsd.org (click here to access), with updated images and a more modern design.
Riverside School District: August 27th.
Rochester Area School District: August 25th. What’s new: Joseph A. Guarino is the new district superintendent. He began July 1st, and he will lead both the Rochester Area and New Brighton Area school districts under a shared appointment.
Sewickley Academy: September 3rd. What’s new: The academy’s 72nd annual Clothesline Sale will take place from Sept. 17th-21st in Snyder Gym. Items to be donated for the sale can be dropped off from August 26th through September 5th at Rea Auditorium; see the clothesline sale page on the academy’s website for operating hours.
South Side Area School District: August 31st.
West Allegheny School District: August 25th. What’s new: Olivia Pasquino was appointed assistant principal at West Allegheny Middle School as of July 1. She joined the district in 2019 and previously taught at the McKee Elementary School. Julian Underwood, former middle school assistant principal, has been promoted to principal at the middle school, and Gary Hutsler, also a former assistant middle school principal, has been named principal at Donaldson Elementary School.
Western Beaver County School District: August 25th. What’s new: Work on the district’s Guaranteed Energy Savings Act, or GESA, project continues to proceed on schedule at the junior/senior high and Fairview Elementary schools, according to an August 12th project update at the district’s website.
