(Pittsburgh, PA) A source confirmed to ESPN amid multiple reports today that the Pittsburgh Pirates recently released designated hitter Marcell Ozuna.

Ozuna signed a one-year, $12 million deal prior to the season which included a mutual option for 2027.

The thirty-five-year-old Ozuna did not provide the offensive numbers that the Pirates were hoping for, because he hit just .203 with 8 home runs, 29 RBIs and a .613 OPS in 70 games with the team.

The Pirates are also reportedly calling up infielder Ronny Simon to the active roster.
