(Pittsburgh, PA) Pittsburgh International Airport showed the first of its four new outdoor terraces on the landside terminal’s arrivals level of the airport yesterday. 

The 36,000 square-foot terrace is called the UPMC Terrace and it is near the baggage claim.  

Customers do not have to pass through security to access it or the terrace across from it, but they will need to go through security to reach the other two. 

According to Allegheny County Airport Authority Chief Operations Officer Travis McNichols, the designs of the terraces evoke Western Pennsylvania’s natural landscapes, complete with more than forty native plant species, like American witch hazel, river birch, and Appalachian sedge. 

These terraces are free and open to the public and they can congregate on the many rocking chairs and tables that are spread around the walking paths.
