(Westmoreland County, PA) The husband of a woman who died after falling into a sinkhole in Westmoreland County in 2024 has filed a wrongful death lawsuit.
The suit, filed by Kenny Pollard, names U.S. Steel, unspecified parties the company may have worked with, and Paul Iannuzzo, owner of Monday’s Union Restaurant.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the remains of Elizabeth Pollard, 64, were recovered Dec. 6, 2024 — four days after she was reported missing while searching for her cat.
Investigators said she fell about 30 feet into a sinkhole in Unity Township that led to a mine abandoned in the 1950s. Crews searched for her in an area behind the restaurant.
The lawsuit alleges negligence and wrongful death, claiming the defendants failed to properly maintain and inspect the mine, address hazardous conditions and warn the public of potential dangers.
