(Pittsburgh, PA) Peoples Natural Gas and its parent company, Essential Utilities, is reminding businesses, contractors and homeowners in Pennsylvania to contact 811 before beginning any projects that involve excavation, no matter the size. This simple process is designed to prevent unnecessary hazards through the PA One Call System. According to a release from Peoples Natural Gas, they recommend following these steps before beginning any project:

  • Call 811 at least three (3) business days before digging.
  • Wait for utility locators to identify and mark the location of underground lines.
  • Respect the markings and use appropriate excavation techniques throughout your project.
  • Notify the appropriate utility company immediately if damage occurs to pipelines, line markers, locator wires or warning tape.
