(Pittsburgh, PA) Two popular TV shows are getting an expensive injection from the administration of Governor Josh Shapiro to film in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Film Office announced yesterday that it awarded $34 million for production on Season 3 of “Tires” and the fifth and final season of “Mayor of Kingstown” through the Film Production Tax Credit Program. The state of Pennsylvania believes that production on both shows will bring in a combined $131 million for its economy and support nearly 3,500 jobs and the state also expects over $107 million to be injected into the Pittsburgh-area economy. According to Variety, “Tires,” co-created and written by Pennsylvania natives Shane Gillis and John McKeever, is currently in production in West Chester. The scripted series on Netflix follows a family as they try to revitalize their auto-repair business called “Valley Forge Automotive Center.” Over $6 million was allocated to “Tires” for the production on Season 3, which is expected to debut sometime later this year. The Pennsylvania Department of Economic Development estimates that $24 million will end up back in the local economy. “Mayor of Kingstown” is a drama on Paramount+ which stars accomplished actors like Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner as well as Emmy winner Edie Falco. Movie Casting Pittsburgh announced on Monday that March 9th is the first day for its filming, which is expected to continue throughout the summer in Pittsburgh. The drama centers around the McLusky family in the fictional town of Kingstown, Michigan.
