Allegheny County jail inmate dies after medical emergency; death under investigation

(Allegheny County, PA) According to officials, a 55-year-old man who was incarcerated at the Allegheny County Jail was found unresponsive in his cell yesterday morning and was later pronounced dead. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that he was later identified as Mark Schwartz of Allison Park. Warden Trevor Wingard stated that Schwartz was discovered by correctional staff at about 7:37 a.m. This declared a medical emergency, and jail medical personnel performed lifesaving measures until the arrival of paramedics. A media release from the Allegheny County Jail confirms that Schwartz was pronounced dead at 8:07 a.m. Wingard expressed that Schwartz had been booked into the jail on August 2nd, 2025, on charges of simple assault and harassment. Allegheny County police are investigating the death of Schwartz.
