American Red Cross disaster mental health volunteer Erika Yourdan, from Ovalo, Texas, talking with Ashlie Coffin who was recently displaced by historic flooding that impacted western Washington. “The water told us we needed to leave,” Ashlie said, talking about her experience at the Three Rivers Mobile Home Park in Snohomish, Washington. Ashlie, her boyfriend, and her two young sons left behind their trailer with most of their belongings in it so that they could escape the rising water. They are all staying at the Red Cross shelter at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds. “Home is where you make it,” Ashlie said. “And the people you meet along the way – the people we’ve met – have really helped us.”
