(Pittsburgh, PA) A local disaster emergency was declared yesterday in Pittsburgh by the Mayor of Pittsburgh, Ed Gainey. This declaration happened because a fire occurred in the Jefferson Apartments in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh on Tuesday. According to Pittsburgh Public Safety, as many as thirty people have been displaced because of this fire. Plans are also in place for the Jefferson Apartments to be demolished because of the fire that occurred there on Tuesday. The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Services Code and City Code was the organization that the emergency declaration was issued under, and this declaration allows for a response that is both coordinated and immediate to both stabilize the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh and support the victims of the fire at the Jefferson Apartments on Tuesday.
