(Harrisburg, PA) According to a release from PennDOT, PennDOT announced on Monday the application period for the grants under the Rail Transportation Assistance Program and the Rail Freight Assistance Program are now open. 4 P.M. on August 29th, 2025 will be the deadline for these applications, so they must be completed before then and the period opened at 8 a.m. on Monday, Augst 4th, 2025. There are sixty-five operating railroads in Pennsylvania, which is the most out of any state in the United States. The $41 million invested by the Shapiro administration to help in the safety and rail infrastructure of roads will help to make new lines for rail and to improve and maintain the around 5,600 miles of freight lines in Pennsylvania. PennDOT gave awards out of $55 million for thirty projects involving rail freight, which sustained or made 344 jobs throughout Pennsylvania.According to that same release from PennDOT, program information can be found on the link below:
