Aliquippa resident Bernice(Medade)Mason will be honored Friday evening by Franklin Center at an event entitled:AMONG THE LEGENDS;’AN EVENING WITH THE ICONS OF BLACK HISTORY”, according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano. MC for the event is Betty Asche Douglas, artist, musician, and educator from Rochester. CCBC executive v.p., and provost Dr. Roger Davis will be introduced, , according to Valerie Mcelvey. Mrs. mason graduated from Aliquippa high School in 1949, attended and graduated college in Hampton, Va, where she earned a degree in elementary education. She taught in Hampton and Richmond while there. Later she taught in Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Coming back to Aliquippa she taught GED and Badsic Education classes at CCBC for 5 years. She served as a substitute teacher at ther alma mater, and even taught band. she added. Later, she became a full time prevention specialist with the Beaver County Prevention Project , retiring in 1992. She served on the B.F. Jones memorial Library Board , and founded medade Educational consultants. she commented: in a phone interview: “I used to be very busy in the community. She suffered a stroke in 2009. Mrs. Mason said. Traditional Southern foods will be served, Mrs. Mcelvey (who will portray Harriet Tubman said and otherperformances in commemoration of Black History Month will be featured. she said in a press release.
