Western Beaver Outlasts Southside 32-20 Under The Lights

(Industry, Pa)

The week 1 matchup between Western Beaver and Southside would traditionally be played on a Saturday afternoon. However a new era of Western Beaver football has begun and on Friday night the Golden Beavers and Rams squared off under the lights.

The Southside offense started the evening by slicing through Western Beavers’ defense rather effortlessly, with Curtis Roy punching it in from a yard out. Southside failed the extra point attempt giving the Rams an early 6-0 lead. On the ensuing drive the Golden Beavers returned the favor when Amari Marshall found his way into the end zone from the one yard line. They had their PAT blocked, knotting the game up at 6.

In the second quarter both teams turned it up a notch. Starting with Southside’s AC Corfield making his way to the end zone and giving the Rams a 12-6 lead. Western Beaver again followed that up with another touchdown of their own. This time Wyatt Sparbanie finds pay dirt tying the game at 12-12. The Golden Beavers converted the first extra point of the game, giving them a slight edge over Southside 13-12. The Rams again would pull ahead after another touchdown by Corfield and by adding the 2 point conversion giving them a seven point lead. With the Golden Beavers trailing 20-13, they went to the air and tied it up before the half on a 15 yard touchdown reception by Hudson. Sending this longtime rivalry to halftime with a 20-20 score.

The third quarter started with Southside driving the length of the field only to be stopped by the Golden Beaver defense inside the five yard line. Western Beaver then drove the ball right down the field to be stopped in return by the Rams defense inside their own five. After both teams scored 20 in the first half, neither team would score any points in the third quarter. With no change in the score the Golden Beavers and Rams head to the last frame tied at 20.

As the clock crept to under ten minutes left in this contest it would be Western Beavers’ Braeden Mayo that would put his team ahead 26-20 with his first touchdown of the evening. With Southsides offense struggling in the second half, getting a final chance from deep in their own end they turned to their passing game . Unfortunately for them that turned into a pick six by Amari Marshall giving Western Beaver a twelve point lead and ultimately the game as the Golden Beavers close the door on Southside and win by a score of 32-20.

The 2-0 Golden Beavers will travel to Rochester on Friday to face the Rams at 7pm, While Southside hosts Beaver Falls on Friday at 7pm.
