Robert W. Oakes Sr., age 90, of Conway, passed away peacefully in his home on January 1, 2024. Born December 24, 1933 in Washington, D.C, he was the son of the late George W. Oakes and Eloise Payne Oakes. He was a retired employee with Armco Steel of Ambridge. Robert was a once a member and usher of the former Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Conway. Presently he was a member of Good Samaritan Roman Catholic Church, Ambridge, St. Luke the Evangelist Parish. Bob was passionate about coaching and umpiring little league baseball. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shirley J. (Franken) Oakes. He is also survived by one son and daughter-in-law David and Beth Oakes, one daughter Denise M. Scriva, two step-sons Robert and Joseph Liberati, one step-daughter Jane Strano, and a daughter-in-law Brenda Halstead, eight grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren, one brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Bobbi Shuller, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by one son Robert W. Oakes Jr. and three brothers Mark, Frank, and Stanley Shuller. Bob’s wishes were to have no visitation and no service.
