Noel Vernon Winton, 81 of Vanport, a former longtime New Brighton resident, passed away on July 22nd, 2025 at his Vanport residence.

His life began on the West Coast in California where he was raised but found its most enduring chapters written in the heart of Beaver County, where he settled after meeting the love of his life, Janis Deyber. Their marriage on November 13th, 1963, was a testament to a love that would endure the trials of time, a union that remained unbroken until Janis’s passing on October 17, 2024.

He was the elder brother of five siblings. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert Vernon and Wrilda Mae Winton and his brothers, Edgar and David. He is survived by his brothers, Jerry and Douglas and his sister, Gina.

Noel is also survived legacy by his loving children: Lori and her husband, Ron Tedford, Doug Winton, and Jeanne Winton and his grandchildren, Tristan Tedford and Noelle Dugan, who will forever cherish the memories of their grandfather’s boundless love and guidance. Known as “Daddy Vern” to many, his extended family at the Monaca American Legion and countless friends felt the warmth of his generous spirit.

Noel’s early life was characterized by a commitment to service. In 1961, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served with distinction during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, where he was a model of patriotism and often spoke with pride about his military experiences. Following his honorable discharge, he dedicated over 40 years of his life to Westinghouse Electric, which later became Cutler Hammer in Beaver as an inspector. His passion for life extended well beyond his professional endeavors. He was an avid lover of kids, dogs, and music who coached the New Brighton Little League team and later ascended to the role of Little League Commissioner. His competitive spirit found another outlet in his participation in a local golf league and his enjoyment of bass fishing. However, music was Noel’s soul’s true companion when he played the guitar and immersed himself in the sounds of Rock n’ Roll that provided him with endless joy. The Beatles, Buddy Holly, and Creedence Clearwater Revival were among his favorite groups with their music the soundtrack of his many cherished moments.

He was also an active member of the Monaca American Legion Post #580 and his presence was a fixture at bar bingo nights, where his laughter and camaraderie were as much a part of the evening as the games themselves.

Everyone is welcome to gather on Thursday, July 31st from 2-6 P.M. at the American Legion Post #580, Pennsylvania Avenue, Monaca to remember and celebrate his life. Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpson Funeral and Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca.
