Mary Ann Dilworth (1932-2024)

Mary Ann Dilworth, 92, formerly of Wilmington, Delaware passed away on August 31, 2024 at Allegheny Hospital in Pittsburgh after a brief illness. She was born in Berwick, Pennsylvania on May 29, 1932, a daughter of the late John Monroe Fairchild and Esther Emmalene Freas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother William Fairchild, her sister Elsie Mitchell, her son Robert Emmett Dilworth III, and her grandson Kevin James Dilworth.

She is survived by her son, John (Julie) of Winslow, Arkansas, son William (Gaylene) of Moon Township, and daughter Judith Cantrell (Sean) of Bridgeville, Delaware, 3 grandchildren, Rita Dilworth, Robert Dilworth IV, Jacob (Evelyn) Dilworth, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Mary Ann married Robert Emmett Dilworth, Jr. on July 17, 1954 in Berwick, Pennsylvania.  They met while both were attending Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.

She taught English in the Norristown, Pennsylvania and Claymont, Delaware schools and sponsored the Claymont High School yearbooks for several years. She was an enthusiastic volunteer with organizations, including Green Circle, NCCJ, Meals-On-Wheels, The Wellness Center, and many others. In recognition of her years of service, she received the Governor of Delaware’s Outstanding Volunteer Award.

She and her husband Bob were both Charter Members who also served on the Board of the Dickinson Theater Organ Society since its inception in 1969.

Services and arrangements have been entrusted to The Huntsman Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Moon Township.
