Darlene M. Kephart, 64 of Daugherty Township, passed away unexpectedly on May 5th, 2025 at her residence. She was a daughter of the late John R. and Sara Weil Smith. Darlene spent her formative years in Economy Borough and proudly graduated from Ambridge High School, where she demonstrated her athletic prowess as a member of the track team.
Darlene’s work ethic was evident in her role as a manager at the local Arby’s restaurant in Conway, where she led her team with kindness and a smile.
Music filled Darlene’s soul, and she shared her passion as a devout member of the New Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church. Her beautiful voice and guitar playing were highlights of the worship services. Darlene’s love of music was only matched by her love of bringing people together, whether through hosting pool parties and cookouts at her home or simply sharing moments with her loved ones.
Darlene’s nurturing spirit extended to her family, the cornerstone of her life. She is survived by her loving husband of 16 years, James S. Kephart, who will deeply miss her companionship and unwavering support. Her legacy continues through her two daughters, Deanna (John) Bautti and Dawn (Brandon) Fowler, who will forever cherish the lessons she imparted. Darlene’s joy was multiplied by her four grandchildren, Roman, Leo, Joshua, and Owen.
Her siblings, Barbara (Dan) Wyberg, Rob (Barb) Smith, and Sue (Bill) Beattie, will remember Darlene as a sister who always provided a listening ear and a helping hand. Her connection with her family extended to her nieces and nephews, and she held a special place in her heart for her nephew, B I O Benny. She had several close friends she held dear over the years, especially Jared who was one of her “kids”, even though there was no relation. Darlene’s caring nature was also evident in her bond with her cat Wizzie, a faithful companion through the years.
Darlene was also an avid gardener who found solace in the beauty of her flower gardens. Her adventurous spirit took her to the Caribbean, where she reveled in the sun and sea, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, July 20th from 3 – 6 p.m. at the New Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2nd Avenue and 1st Street, Economy. Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpson Funeral and Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca.
Due to her love of animals, memorial contributions may be made in Darlene’s memory if desired to an animal shelter of your choice.
