Darcell Ann (Atkinson) Mohrbacher 1952 ~ 2024

Darcell Ann Mohrbacher, 71, of New Brighton, passed away peacefully at her niece’s home in Rochester on Saturday, February 10, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Born May 24, 1952, she was the daughter of the late James Emmit and Mary Margaret (Pickens) Atkinson. She graduated 7th in her class at New Brighton High School, class of 1970. Darcell was a longtime member of the New Brighton Church of the Nazarene and loved her pastor, Donald MacNeil. She worked for Michael Baker as a secretary and retired after 23 years to become a stay-at-home mom. She loved cooking amazing food, being with her dogs, decorating her house with different themes, especially bunnies and butterflies. She loved being outside and took pride in gardening and maintaining her backyard, a trait she got from her father. She also loved dressing up and going out dancing with her husband, twin sister and friends. When her youngest son became a police officer, she would always listen to the scanner while he was on duty and call to check on him each time she heard something was going on in his area. More than anything, Darcell loved spending time with her family and having a gathering for every birthday and holiday.

Darcell is survived by her loving husband, Howard Mohrbacher; children, Shawn Hall, Megan (Jamie) Shanor, and Travis (Chelsea) Mohrbacher; grandchildren, Corinne, Aaron, Aubrey, Hunter, Taylor and Logan; great-grandchildren, Jacen and Zoey; sisters, Diane (Bruce) Fox, twin sister, Darnice Albright, and Ruth Kingsley; a niece, Jamie Majzlik, who was like a daughter to her; a special cousin, Sally Patton and two very special friends, Darcell Fosnaught and Ruth Ann Cvetichan.

Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Ike Albright; nieces, Marcie Fox and Heather Schneider-Proya; and her favorite aunt, Kathryn Nelsen.

A memorial celebration of life will be held on February 17, 2024, at The YMCA Commons (previously The Life Center), 2232 3rd Avenue, New Brighton, PA 15066 at 1pm.
