An Ambridge mother is facing a charge of attempted homicide after allegedly injuring her three-month-old child. 21-year-old Kayla Hummel is accused of causing life-threatening injuries to her daughter. According to the criminal complaint, a CYS worker contacted police in late September after the baby arrived to Pittsburgh’s Children’s Hospital with multiple injuries, including a fractured skull and bleeding on her brain. The infant is in serious condition and currently in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Hummel told police her child was injured in a crash with an Ambridge police car. She blamed other injuries on “earlier accidents,” often changing her statements to police. The father of the baby told police Hummel told him the baby was crying when she became frustrated, then shook the baby, then “blacked out.” Hummel is in custody at the Beaver County Jail on $100,000 bond.
