Votto helps Reds beat Pirates 13-1 to stay in playoff race
By GARY SCHATZ Associated Press
CINCINNATI (AP) — Joey Votto homered twice and drove in four runs, and the Cincinnati Reds pounded the Pittsburgh Pirates 13-1 to stay alive in the race for the second NL wild card. Nick Castellanos, rookie Jonathan India and Eugenio Suarez also connected as Cincinnati posted its fourth straight victory, clinching a second straight winning season. Castellanos had five RBIs, and India finished with four hits and scored four times. The Reds pulled within 5 1/2 games of idle St. Louis for the second wild card. The Cardinals need just one more win to secure the spot.

Sloppy Steelers in an unusual spot: last place in AFC North

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers are struggling at 1-2 following a 24-10 loss to Cincinnati. The Steelers were undone by a pair of turnovers from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and a series of penalties by their retooled offensive line. Coach Mike Tomlin says there is plenty of blame to go around. Roethlisberger says he still has belief in the offensive line and it’s on him to play better. The Steelers travel to Green Bay next week.
Golden Tornadoes stomp Bethany College 42-7!
The Geneva Golden Tornadoes defeated the Bethany College Bison 42-7 tonight. The game was very one sided game, it started when the Golden Tornadoes blocked a punt that resulted in a touchdown. After that it was all down hill for the Bison as they could not string together any good drives. The Golden Tornadoes scored 28 unanswered points in the first quarter, the second quarter the Bison were able to move the ball a little resulting in 7 points. And the Golden Tornadoes took a commanding 35-7 lead going into the half. The second half was a lot less exciting as both traded turnovers during the third and part of the fourth quarter. But, despite the fight the Bison put up it was not enough to overcome the Golden Tornadoes. The Bison move to 0-4 on the year and they will play Carnegie Mellon next week, and as for the Golden Tornadoes they move to 2-2 and will play Washington and Jefferson.
