(Cincinnati, OH) Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ performance in a 33-31 loss last night during a Thursday night NFL football game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Cincinnati, Ohio put him ahead of another quarterback who played for the Steelers on the NFL’s all-time passing yards list. Rodgers has officially passed former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to take over fifth place on that list. According to ESPN.com, Rodgers has now accumulated 64,222 passing yards in his career after the Steelers’ game against the Bengals last night, while Roethlisberger passed for 64,088 yards in his career before retiring. Rodgers passed Roethlisberger in the second quarter of that NFL game last night with his completion of 15 yards to Steelers running back Jaylen Warren. Roethlisberger retired after the 2021 NFL season and it took 249 games for him to get to his career total in passing yards. Ironically, Rodgers passes Roethlisberger on the NFL all-time passing yards list, and Roethlisberger was the opposing quarterback on the Steelers when Rodgers was the quarterback for the Green Bay Packers when the two teams played in Super Bowl XLV (45) on February 6th, 2011 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Rodgers’ Packers won that game, 31-25, to give Rodgers his first Super Bowl victory and his first Super Bowl championship ring. Roethlisberger has two Super Bowl victories, with Super Bowl championship rings from the Steelers defeating the Seattle Seahawks 21-10 in Super Bowl XL (40) on February 5th, 2006 at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan and the Steelers defeating the Arizona Cardinals 27-23 in Super Bowl XLIII on February 1st, 2009 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.

(Beaver County, PA) 2025 is the 100th year of the Beaver Valley Football Officials PIAA chapter, which is a group of officials that continues to keep their tradition with officiating Western Pennsylvania football games. There are 49 officials who are currently paying dues for the 2025 high school football season, with two female officials, three sets of brothers, three duos of fathers and sons, three members who officiate college football along with their high school assignments. Many officials that are part of this chapter, and some of them have become members of the Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame, which include Sam Adams, Ronald “Lefty” Dionisio, Jim Irons, Lenny Leiper and Reggie Smith. Smith has worked Big 10, Big 12 and Conference USA games for college football before his present role as a rules analyst for both the Big 10 coverage and Notre Dame coverage from NBC. Another official from the Beaver Valley Football Officials PIAA chapter who has experience in officiating college football is Mark Estermeyer, who was worked games in the Big 12. The Beaver Valley Football officials are accepting applications anytime to become new members and to become an official, regardless of your age or background. (Wampum, PA) The Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Wampum will host their “One Last Lap” event for the community on Saturday, November 1st and Sunday, November 2nd, 2025. Pitt Race will officially close for its final season of racing on November 9th, 2025 after its owners, Jim and Kathy Stout, will step away from that raceway after much thought. (Ambridge, PA) The Ambridge Area School District put on its agenda list at their meet and discuss board meeting on October 8th, 2025 that it is recommended for Ambridge High School football coach Sherman McBride to resign after the 2025 high school football season. McBride is a native of Aliquippa, a 1980 graduate of Aliquippa High School and a member of the Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame. McBride will finish his fifth season as the Ambridge High School Head Football coach after he was hired to serve in that position in 2021.

(University Park, PA) Terry Smith is now the temporary interim head college football coach for Penn State University after their head football coach James Franklin was fired on Sunday. Smith is a graduate of Gateway School District in Monroeville and is originally from Aliquippa. Smith also graduated from Penn State University in 1991 with a business management degree and was a three-year wide receiver there. Smith had entered his position as Penn State University’s defensive recruiting coordinator and cornerbacks coach for his twelfth season and Penn State University’s associate coach for his fifth season.

(Aliquippa, PA) Aliquippa High School starting quarterback Marques Council is now out for the rest of this year’s high school football season because of a knee injury that he suffered in September. In a statement from his mother, Taira, Council will rehab the injury over the next several months as he prepares to play football at Yale University in the fall. Council threw for nine touchdowns and 983 yards and four interceptions while completing 53% of his passes this season in six games.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — New York Rangers coach Mike Sullivan knew the Pittsburgh Penguins were going to play a tribute video.

There has been one for each returning player that won a championship during Sullivan’s time with the Penguins.

That doesn’t mean it wasn’t any less emotional in his return to Pittsburgh after parting ways with the organization in April.

“It means a lot,” Sullivan said after New York’s 6-1 win at Pittsburgh on Saturday. “I’m grateful for everything we accomplished (in Pittsburgh) during my time.”

The tribute video played at the first media timeout, honoring Sullivan for his accomplishments with the Penguins. Sullivan received a standing ovation and acknowledged the crowd with a wave to the air

Mika Zibanejad scored a short-handed goal 23 seconds after the video to give the Rangers a lead they didn’t relinquish.

Sullivan, who spent 10 seasons with the Penguins, was elevated from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League and won back-to-back Stanley Cup championships with Pittsburgh in 2016-17. Sullivan, the only U.S.-born coach to win at least two Stanley Cups, is the all-time leader at Pittsburgh with 409 wins in 753 games.

“I’m so grateful to the group of players over those years that performed the way they did that allowed us to have the success that we had,” Sullivan said. “When you watch a tribute like that, which I was very appreciative of for the Penguins, they didn’t have to do that, it brings back a flood of emotions.”

Sullivan already coached against the Penguins and lost, as Dan Muse won his debut behind the bench with Pittsburgh 3-0 in Tuesday’s season opener at Madison Square Garden. Sullivan was impressed with his team’s response during a shutout at Buffalo on Thursday and again two days later with a win against the same Pittsburgh team that blanked the Rangers in the opener.

“They played a much more determined game for the last 40 minutes,” Sullivan said. “I think that shows you what we’re capable of when we play with that focus and determination.”

The Penguins and Sullivan parted ways after Pittsburgh missed the playoffs for a third straight season. Almost immediately, Sullivan landed in New York and replaced Peter Laviolette for a franchise seeking it’s first title since 1994. Sullivan is now tasked with the responsibility of providing structure and discipline to a team that unraveled on and off the ice, missing the playoffs one season after winning the Presidents Trophy and reaching the Eastern Conference Final.

Sullivan’s relentless intensity instantly ignited the Penguins. But now Pittsburgh, which hasn’t made it beyond the first round since 2018, is in the midst of an inevitable rebuild and general manager Kyle Dubas felt that it was time to go in another direction.

Now, Sullivan’s job is to turn the Rangers back into an immediate contender.

“I’m excited about the group of players we have in New York,” Sullivan said. “I’ve enjoyed the time I’ve had to work with them to this point, we have a lot of enthusiasm around our team right now and we’re excited about what we can potentially do moving forward.”
