The L A Lakers are the second worse team in the NBA (12-51). The Golden State Warriors are having a record season (56-6). The two teams met Sunday afternoon at the Staple Center in L. A. Despite the huge difference in talent, The Lakers routed the Warriors 112-95. The Lakers shot 47-percent from the floor and 21 of 22 from the foul line. Bolland family guests on “The Lead Lap”
(Beaver County, PA) The temperatures really heated up figuratively and literally as a milder than normal winter has gotten Beaver County Radio listeners thinking about racing. Along that line, The the airwaves got revved up like a big block chevy at red line speed as Beaver County’s first family of racing, the Bollands were special guests
on the “The Lead Lap” which aired from 10 to 11 A.M. on WBVP and WMBA. Show sponsor Don Bolland, from Bolland Machine company, along with his sons, local dirt race car “trip 7’s” driver Kevin Bolland and crew chief, Keith Bolland Joined hosts Frank Sparks and Jason Colangelo.
Listeners were treated to lively discussion about local racing, local track schedules and National racing events during the one hour special racing oriented broadcast.
Coaches Corner March 2, 2016
(Bridgewater, PA) Beaver County Radio hosted another edition of “Coaches Corner” live on the Sports Patio/Winter Lodge at Robert’s Roadside Inn Wednesday evening. Special guests included Beaver Falls Head Coach Doug Biega and several Tigers Players, and Nick Lackovich from Aliquippa and many of his Quip basketball players. Both coaches talked about winning their respective WPIAL Championship games this past weekend and how they are preparing for the start of PIAA playoffs beginning on Friday.
On Friday, March 4, Beaver Falls will take on Steel Valley with air time at 5:30 on WBVP and WMBA. On Saturday March 5, Aliquippa takes on Tyrone in it’s first round of state playoff action. Air time for that broadcast on WMBA is 5:00 P.M.
Tuesday Was An Upset For The WPIAL
Two number one seeds were knock out of the playoffs Tuesday night. The first was in Triple A. Highlands came from 7-points back to defeat defending WPIAL Champion New Castle 79-76. In the other tripe A game Beaver Falls survived a come back by Mars to beat the Planets 59-58. Highlands faces Beaver Falls in the Triple A Championship Game Friday night at the Peterson Event Center starting at 9pm. The other upset was in Class A. C W North Catholic stunned number 1 seed Monesson 79-77 in overtime. They will play Sewickley Academy in the Championship game . Sewickley came from 21-points down to edge Jeannette 69-68.
WPIAL Playoffs Enter The Semis
The WPIAL Basketball Playoffs enter the semi finals tonight. In Triple A match ups, New Castle takes on Highlands at North Allegheny High School. Tip off at 6pm. The other game pits Beaver Falls against Mars at Ambridge High School. WBVP-WMBA airtime is 5:30. Tip off is 6pm.
Pirates Spring Workouts Begin Today
Full scale workouts begin today for the Pirates. Yesterday Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen covered a lot of items including his future with the team. The former MVP told reporters he would like to end his career as a Pirate. McCutchen has two years left on his contract with a one year option by the team. The Pirates ace Gerrit Cole threw a bullpen session on Monday. Cole was suffering from pain on his right side. It was inflammation of his rib cage. After 20-pitches, Cole said he was fine.
Local College Basketball Action
Both the Geneva mens and womens teams lost in the first round of the PAC Tournament. The Men lost 74-64 to Chatham. The G-Men were lead by Chase Vaudrin’s 19 points and 11 rebounds. A bad third quarter doomed the Geneva women as they lost 82-67 to the Chatham women. It was the final game for Geneva’s Heidi Mann. She lead with 25 points. The Penn State women, who are 17-9 will face Penn State Hazelton in the Finals of the PSUAC tournament at the Bryce Jordan Center in State College tonight. Tip off is 6pm.
