Penguins On A Roll

The Penguins won their sixth in a row and prevented the Washington Capitals from clinching the Metropolitan Division 6-2. The Penguins were lead by  rookie  Tom Kuhnkackl ‘s one goal and two assists.  Five other Penguins scored. Sidney Crosby had two assists and goaltender Marc Andea Fluerry made 16 saves.  With the win the Penguins move into a tie for 2nd place with the New York Rangers in the Metropolitan Division.  They are off til Thursday when they host the New Jersey Devils.

 

Jamie On The Move ?

The Pitt Panthers are the only ACC Team not to make the NCAA’s Sweet 16. Now that the season is over, rumors have surfaced that coach Jamie Dixon is ready to move on to another school.  The latest is at his alma mater TCU.  The Horn Frogs fired coach Trent  Johnson  after four seasons.   The Fort Worth Star Telegram reported Sunday that Dixon and TCU were closing in on a deal. It went on to say he was trying to put together a staff.  Dixon is under contract with Pitt til 2023 at 3.2 million  a year.  To get out of the contract it will cost around 10-million dollars.  Neither the Pitt  Athletic Department or Coach Dixon have comment on the situation.

Tall Tasks For Lady Dukes

The Duquesne Lady Dukes won their first ever NCAA Tournament game over Seton Hall Saturday.  Their second game will be quite a challenge. They face overall number one seed  and defending champions the Connecticut Huskies.  They are 33-0 and beat Robert Morris by 52 on Saturday.  The tipoff from Gampel Pavilion in Stoors Connecticut is 9 pm.   The Duquesne men are in Morehead Kentucky to play Morehead State in the CVI Tournament.

 

Pirates Play Two

After losing 3-2 to Toronto Sunday, the Pirates  play two today.  They host the Atlanta Braves at Bradenton in the first game.  A split  squad  travels to Fort Meyers to play the Minnesota Twins.

Local Players Are involved In NCAA Tournament

When  Temple takes the floor against Iowa in the first round of the NCAA Basketball Championship, Lincoln Park Alumni  Devonte Watson will be in the line up. The senior from Ambridge just missed the big dance last year and played well in the NIT.  Hopewell grad Shatori Walker-Kimbough led the Maryland Lady Terrapins to a Big 10 championship and a number two seed in the NCAA Tournament.  They play the number 12 seed Iona. Walker-Kimbrough is Marylands leading scorer averaging 19.5 points per game.  Duquesne  Lady Dukes are in their first NCAA Tournament. Freshman  Chassidy Omogrosso  from Blackhawk has been a contributor to the team’s success. She has averaged 8.8 points a game. The number nine seed Dukes face number 8 seed Seton Hall Saturday afternoon. Beaver Falls Sheldon Jeter and Cameron Johnson from OLSH will play for Pitt  when they take on Wisconsin Friday Night in St Louis.
