Steelers First Preseason Game

Most of the starters will sit tonight as the Steelers open their preseason schedule against the Detroit Lions at Heinz Field.  Airtime on WBVP-WMBA is 5pm. The kickoff is at 7.  When Heath Miller retired earlier this year, the Steelers signed free agent tight end Ladarius Green from San Diego.  Green had off season ankle surgery. That was healed  when training camp started.  He has yet to practice because of persistent head aches. He is in the Steelers concussion protocol.  Green signed a four year 20-million dollar contract a month after Miller retired. He told them about his ankle surgery but, sources say they never discussed his concussion problem.

Big Ben to sit out Steelers game Friday

Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told Teresa Valley, from Steelers.com and other reporters today that Friday’s opening pre-season game against Detroit will be a chance for a lot of younger players to show case their talents as many of the Steelers veteran starters will not be playing. Topping the list of players that will not play is quarterback  Ben Roethlisberger. Even though Coach Tomlin has not ruled any one out the likely hood of players such as   receiver Antonio Brown, running backs Le’Veon Bell and DeAngelo Williams, and center Maurkice Pouncey playing is  marginal. Tomlin did go on to say that it’s ‘reasonable’ receiver Markus Wheaton, cornerback Artie Burns, linebacker Travis Feeney and defensive tackle Roy Philon will not play because of lack of time on the field due to their injuries. “I’m going to put together a schedule of participation for those guys but that schedule probably won’t be in this first preseason game,” said Tomlin. “We’re going play it by ear and deal with their overall readiness toward the regular season on a week-to-week basis, but they won’t be participating this week.”

Jimmie Johnson reveals Darlington Throw Back Scheme

Hendrick Motorsports unveiled the No. 48 Chevrolet that Jimmie Johnson will drive Labor Day weekend at Darlington Raceway on Wednesday, flashing a throwback paint scheme that pays tribute to NASCAR Hall of Famers David Pearson and Dale Earnhardt.

Johnson’s car will maintain primary sponsorship by Lowe’s Home Improvement for theBojangles’ Southern 500 on Sept. 4, but with a retro-themed look for NASCAR’s annual throwback weekend. The blue-and-yellow paint scheme is reminiscent of the No. 2 entries that Rod Osterlund once fielded for Earnhardt and Pearson in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
