Beaver County has several representatives in the WPIAL Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball playoffs, and Tuesday night they learned of their first assignments heading into the postseason. Games with times and locations, as well as teams sitting out the first round, are listed below.

Penguins Look To Break Second-Place Tie

The Penguins are now in a three-way tie for second place in the Metropolitan Division with the Rangers and Blue Jackets, and look to break ahead of that tie tonight at home against Vancouver. Evgeni Malkin is a game-time decision, and Bryan Rust is out with a lower-body injury. Game time is at 7:00 PM.

Blackhawk and Beaver went into their regular season finale with hopes to reach the playoffs.

After the game, neither team will go.

Central Valley’s victory over Hopewell eliminated Blackhawk, and the Cougars’ 70-49 victory over the Bobcats eliminated Beaver on Beaver County Radio. The Blackhawk victory gives the two teams identical 6-8 records in Section 2-AAAA, tied for 5th and out of playoff contention. Central Valley earns the 4th and final playoff spot in the section at 7-7.

The Bobcats’ Darius Wise and the Cougars’ Trent Michael earned honors as CCBC Players Of The Game.

Beaver & Blackhawk Battle For Playoff Lives Tonight

Beaver hosts Blackhawk in their final game of section play in 2-AAAA tonight on Beaver County Radio. Beaver is 6-7 in the section, tied for the fourth and final playoff spot with Central Valley, while Blackhawk is 5-8 and trying to jump both teams to earn a playoff spot. Pre-game is at 7:05, and tip-off is at 7:30. After the game, we’ll cover all of the scores and final standings on the Wrap-Up Show until 10:00.

Central Valley Stays Alive In WPIAL Playoff Race

The Central Valley Warriors keep their playoff hopes alive with a 59-39 victory over the Ambridge Bridgers on Beaver County Radio last night. The Warriors improve to 6-7 in Section 2-AAAA, while the Bridgers drop to 4-8 and have been eliminated from playoff contention.
