Boys’ 4A Semifinals On Beaver County Radio Tonight

The top four teams in Section 2 of 4A have reached the WPIAL Semifinals, and the winners will be revealed tonight on Beaver County Radio.

#2 Quaker Valley and #3 Beaver Falls split their regular season series, with the road team winning each game; the Quakers winning 78-58 on January 6, and the Tigers winning on January 31 by a score of 77-66. Beaver Falls is looking for their fifth trip to the WPIAL finals in six years, while Quaker Valley is seeking their first title game appearance since their 1997 victory over New Brighton. Game time is at 6:15 from Moon Area HS, with pre-game at 5:45 on 1230 WBVP.

Meanwhile #1 New Castle swept the season series against #4 Central Valley, winning 63-49 on December 20, and 63-39 on January 20. The Warriors are seeking their second WPIAL title game in school history (2014), while the Red Hurricane is seeking their fourth trip in six years and first since 2014. Game time is 6:15 from Ambridge HS, with pre-game at 5:45 on 1460 WMBA.

The winners of these two games will play in the 4A championship on Saturday at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh at 1:00pm.

Steelers sign Antonio Brown to new 5 year contract

The Steelers have locked up wide receiver Antonio Brown through the 2021 season.
The team announced Monday a new five-year deal with Brown.
the new deal will reportedly  pay Brown $72.2 million, making him the highest paid wide receiver in the NFL.
Brown earned his fifth Pro Bowl selection following the 2016 season and was a first-team  All-Pro  for the third consecutive year.
He finished the year  second in the NFL in receptions (106), tied for second in touchdown catches (12) and fifth in receiving yards (1,284).

WPIAL Basketball Semifinals Tonight On The Air

Three teams look to punch their tickets to the WPIAL Championship games tonight on Beaver County Radio.

On 1230 WBVP, the #2 Blackhawk Lady Cougars take on #6 South Park in one 4A Girls’ semifinal game at 6:15; pre-game is at 5:45 from North Allegheny HS.

On 1460 WMBA, the other semifinal game in 4A Girls’ pins the #5 Beaver Lady Bobcats against #1 Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic at 6:15; pre-game is at 5:45 from Moon Area HS.

Finally, on WBVP following the conclusion of Blackhawk/South Park will be the second game of the doubleheader at North Allegheny, as the #1 Lincoln Park Leopards battle #4 Shady Side Academy in the 3A Boys’ semifinal.

WPIAL 1A Girls: St Joseph’s 69, Quigley Catholic 65

Rested or rusty?

The Quigley Catholic Girls showed a little of both on Friday night, having enough energy to overcome a 36-26 halftime deficit, but not enough steam to hold off St. Joseph at the end, losing by a final score of 69-65.

Taylor Kirschner led #3 Quigley with 29 points, while Lizzy Celko led #6 St. Joseph with 23. Both players were selected as CCBC Players Of The Game.

St. Joseph will play #2 Cornell in the semifinals (Cornell 64-33 winners over Geibel Catholic).

WPIAL 2A Girls: West Greene 51 Rochester 37

It was too much Lampe for the Rochester Lady Rams.  They lost their  WPIAL Girls 2a  quarter final game  51-37. to West Greene. Madison Lappe scored 19 and  twin sister  McKenna 18 as West Greene advanced to the semi-finals for the first time in their history. The Lady Rams were lead  by Jasmine Mack with 17 points The Rams will now root for West Greene to win the WPIAL 2a Title so they can enter  the PIAA playoffs.

Four Broadcast Games Spearhead Local Teams In WPIAL Playoff Action

Tonight on Beaver County Radio, four local teams will be showcased on their run to the WPIAL Championships in basketball.

On WBVP tonight, the #2 Blackhawk Lady Cougars take on #7 Freeport in the quarterfinals of the 4A Girls’ playoffs at 6:30, with pre-game at 6:05. The second game of that doubleheader will follow as 3A #1 Lincoln Park will battle #8 Seton-LaSalle in Boys’ action. Both games will be played at North Allegheny HS.

On WMBA tonight, #5 Beaver takes on #4 Keystone Oaks in the 4A Girls’ quarterfinals at 6:30, with pre-game at 6:05. Following that will be #7 Rochester taking on #2 Vincentian in the 1A Boys’ quarterfinals. Both games will be played at Moon Area HS.
