Authorities say Kraft visited parlor for sex on day of AFC Championship game.

Authorities: Kraft visited parlor for sex on day of AFC game
By TERRY SPENCER, Associated Press
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft visited a Florida massage parlor for sex acts the night before and the morning of last month’s AFC Championship Game, which he attended in Kansas City, authorities said Monday in documents charging him with two misdemeanor counts of soliciting prostitution.
The 77-year-old Kraft was chauffeured to the Orchids of Asia Day Spa in a 2014 white Bentley on the evening of Jan. 19, where police say they videotaped him engaging in a sex act and then handing over an undetermined amount of cash, Jupiter, Florida, police said in charging documents released by the Palm Beach State Attorney’s Office.
Investigators said Kraft was back at the spa 17 hours later, arriving at the upper-middle class shopping center where the spa was located in a chauffeured 2015 blue Bentley, the documents said. He was videotaped engaging in sex acts before paying with a $100 bill and another bill, police said.
Kraft, whose team won the Super Bowl earlier this month, has denied wrongdoing.
State Attorney Dave Aronberg said Kraft will be issued a summons that is similar to a traffic ticket and assigned a day to appear in court. Most people charged for the first time with soliciting are eligible for a diversion program where they pay a small fine, perform 100 hours of community service and attend a class where they learn about the dangers of prostitution and how it is often tied to human trafficking.
Kraft is one of hundreds of men charged in recent days as part of a crackdown on prostitution occurring in massage parlors between Palm Beach and Orlando. Ten spas have been closed.
Authorities investigated the parlors for months, gathering enough evidence through observation, interviews with men stopped leaving the spas, trash bin searches and surveillance of their owners. Judges then issued warrants allowing them to secretly install cameras inside the spas to record what transpired.
Aronberg steered a Monday news conference away from Kraft’s specific case to the larger issue of human trafficking, though no human trafficking charges have been filed against Kraft or any of the other defendants connected to the massage parlors.
“The larger picture, which we must all confront, is the cold reality that many prostitutes in cases like this are themselves victims, often lured to this country with promises of a better life, only to be forced to live and work in a sweat shop or a brothel performing sex acts for strangers,” Aronberg said.
Aronberg pointed out that Florida has particularly severe punishments for human trafficking and allows the workers to be treated as victims if they cooperate. He also said the federal government can offer visas for victims who are foreign nationals if they cooperate.
At least some of the people charged with operating the massage parlors were born in China and Chinese translators are being used to interview women connected with the businesses, according to court documents. Authorities have not said how many women worked at the parlors, where they are being housed since the spas’ closures and where they are from.
Before raids began last week, most of the women were living in the spas and were not allowed to leave without an escort, police say.

Keselowski shakes off flu to win at Atlanta.

The Latest: Keselowski shakes off flu to win at Atlanta
HAMPTON, Ga. (AP) — The Latest on the NASCAR race at Atlanta Motor Speedway (all times local):
5:50 p.m.
Brad Keselowski has recovered from a stomach virus to win Sunday’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Team Penske started the day with a replacement driver on standby for Keselowski because the bug that hit him late Friday night kept him out of the car for a portion of final practice. Keselowski received intravenous fluids in the track’s infield medical center and vowed to complete all 500 miles.
The win is the first points victory for Ford’s new Mustang and came a week after the manufacturer was locked out of a podium finish at the Daytona 500.
Martin Truex Jr. finished second in a rebound from his disappointing debut with Joe Gibbs Racing. His three JGR teammates swept the podium in the Daytona 500 while Truex failed to ever contend in his Toyota.
Kurt Busch was third in a Chevrolet for Chip Ganassi Racing.
Kyle Larson led a race-high 142 laps but was taken out of contention by a speeding penalty. Ryan Blaney, Keselowski’s teammate, led 41 laps until a poor pit stop ruined his race.
___
4:15 p.m.
Kevin Harvick and Kyle Larson have waged an entertaining contest for the lead throughout the second stage of Sunday’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Harvick earned the stage victory. He passed Larson when Larson bobbled in the closing laps of the stage. The two had exchanged the lead earlier, with Larson capitalizing when Harvick hit a bump in the asphalt.
Martin Truex Jr. was third in the stage and followed by Ryan Blaney, Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano.
Logano has had trouble on pit road on every stop because his car has repeatedly been boxed into its stall by Alex Bowman. It has cost Logano several positions each time he’s had to make up on the track.
___
3:15 p.m.
Kyle Larson has won the first stage of Sunday’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Larson was the first driver off pit road following a competition caution 35 laps into the race. Kevin Harvick was second in the stage and followed by pole-sitter Aric Almirola, Kurt Busch and Martin Truex Jr.
NASCAR debuted a new competition package at Atlanta that showed early promise when the cars ran close together. But the field was strung out and single-file at the end of the first stage.
The stage victory was the sixth for Larson on a 1.5-mile speedway.
___
2:15 p.m.
Brad Keselowski has recovered from a stomach virus in time to start Sunday’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Keselowski jogged from a golf cart into the pre-race driver meeting and predicted he’d go the full 500 miles.
Keselowski missed a portion of the final practice session with a stomach bug and was treated with intravenous fluids Saturday in the infield care center. Team Penske had Austin Cindric on standby in case Keselowski was too ill to drive his No. 2 Ford.
Keselowski’s symptoms first appeared after he surprised fans Friday night in the rainy infield at Atlanta.
___
2 p.m.
Kyle Busch will make his 500th career Cup start when he races Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway, where he’s already notched one milestone this weekend.
Busch became the Truck Series all-time wins leader Saturday with his 52nd career victory. He starts from the back in Sunday’s main event because he crashed his Toyota in final practice.
Aric Almirola starts from the pole in the debut for NASCAR’s new competition package. The rules this season are designed to improve the on-track product by slowing the cars and creating more passing opportunities. NASCAR hopes the package creates parity among the teams and increases entertainment for fans.
Brad Keselowski has battled a stomach ailment at Atlanta but is expected to at least start the race. Austin Cindric is on standby as a Team Penske relief driver.

Giroux scores OT winner to lead Flyers past Penguins 4-3

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Claude Giroux scored 1:59 into overtime and the Philadelphia Flyers scored three straight goals in the rain to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 on a soggy Saturday night at Lincoln Financial Field.

The Flyers and Penguins took one of the NHL’s more heated rivalries outdoors and into prime time as part of the Stadium Series showcase. The rink that stretched from 30-yard line to 30-yard line needed a squeegee more than a Zamboni, but nearly 70,000 fans stuck around the home of the Eagles to watch the Flyers play the marquee game on their schedule.

The Flyers gave them a win to remember.

With rain pounding the ice in third period, the Flyers got going. James van Riemsdyk, playing in his record sixth outdoor game, made it 3-2 on a power-play goal with 3:04 left. Jake Voracek tied it at 3-all with 19.7 seconds left, sending what was left of the sellout crowd into a frenzy.

Giroux, the Flyers’ All-Star captain, made sure the game didn’t last much longer. He slipped the winner past Matt Murray, and the Flyers celebrated in the mist. Giroux said he felt “goosebumps” in a stadium where he’s a regular at Eagles games.

Scoring updates: Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Philadelphia Flyers, Saturday September 23, 2019, 8:00 p.m.
