Pirates’ Winning Creating Positive Atmosphere, Says Bob Walk

Do the wins in Spring Training truly count? In one sense, perhaps they do.

Bob Walk joined Matt Drzik from Bradenton for another Spring Training Report on Wednesday, one day after the Pirates came within one strike of a combined no-hitter and put up 10 runs against the Atlanta Braves in Kissimmee. Walk said that such games are good for a young team as far as building a winning atmosphere.

Walk also talked about the recent performance of Steven Brault, the stars-to-be on this Pirates roster, and the more conservative approach to the remainder of spring training.

Neshannock Advances!

The Neshannock Lancers defeated the Beaver Falls Tigers 40-33 tonight to move on to the WPIAL Semi-finals later this week. The game started out pretty even as both teams struggled to score a basket in the first quarter, resulting in a 8-4  with Neshannock leading. But, the second quarter was all the Lancers as they started the second quarter with a 9-0 run. The Lancers took a commanding lead going into the half up 21-6, and outscored the Tigers 15-2 in the second quarter. Despite the big lead the Tigers stormed back in the third quarter outscoring the Lancers 20-9. But, it was not enough as the Tigers ultimately could not complete the comeback falling 40-33.

Bob Walk Likes Pirates’ Improved Offense & Pitching So Far

It may only be a handful of exhibition, but 4-3-1 and a 13-run outing make for some optimism in the annals of the 2021 Pittsburgh Pirates.

Such high(er) hopes were the backbone to the discussion between longtime Pirates broadcaster Bob Walk and A.M. Beaver County’s Matt Drzik in talking about the Bucs’ stint in Bradenton so far. Walk mentioned that the depths from which the Pirates resided statistically last year must and should be improved upon, while the young pitching staff might be ready to compete for higher accolades in a couple of years.

The Rochester Rams defeated the Western Beaver Golden Beavers 49-30, and move on.  It was a tight game in the first quarter for there was not a whole lot of offense. The second quarter was much better for Rochester as they began to heat up on offense, but the same can not be said about Western Beaver as they were basically shut out in the second quarter only scoring 2pts. The Rams went into the half with a 15-8 lead, and kept adding to the lead expanding their lead to 20 going into the 4th quarter. Much was the same in the 4th quarter as Rochester did not let up. The Rams will face the winner of Leechburg vs Eden Christian.
