Beaver Girls win first WPIAL Title!

 

 

 

The Beaver Lady Bobcats defeated the Quaker Valley Lady Quakers 45-29, to capture the schools first ever WPIAL basketball championship. The Lady Quakers jumped out to an early lead at the end of the first quarter up 14-9. But, after that the Lady Bobcats defense started playing lock down defense. Holding the Quakers to only 4 points in the second quarter. The Bobcats defense was so tenacious that the Quakers did not score a field goal in the second and third quarters. The Bobcats led 33-18 entering the fourth quarter were it was much of the same. The Beaver Bobcats remain undefeated as they will start PIAA State playoffs next weekend.

Steelers re-sign WR Ray-Ray McCloud to 1-year deal
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Ray-Ray McLoud’s solid season with the Pittsburgh Steelers earned the wide receiver/returner a second stint with the team. The Steelers signed McCloud to a one-year deal to give them some depth at the position with the impending departure of JuJu Smith-Schuster in free agency. McCloud averaged 10.3 yards per punt return and 23.1 yards per kickoff return last season. He also caught 20 passes for 77 yards and ran for 65 yards on four carries.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Evgeni Malkin had a goal and assist and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the free-falling Buffalo Sabres 5-2 on Thursday night for their fourth straight victory. Jake Guentzel scored the go-ahead goal on the power play with 8:24 left in the second period. Brandon Tanev, Anthony Angelo and Bryan Rust, with an empty-netter, also scored. Tristan Jarry stopped 21 shots and was assisted on Rust’s goal. Pittsburgh has won 11 of its past 14. Pittsburgh’s Mike Sullivan became the NHL’s fourth U.S.-born coach to win 300 games, and 12th overall to have that many career victories and at least two Stanley Cup titles. The teams will complete the two-game series Saturday night.

Mohawk Defeats Beaver Falls and Moves On 61-31!!!

The Beaver Falls Lady Tigers travelled to Mohawk this evening for a playoff showdown.  The Beaver Falls line struggled from early in the game and Mohawk was able to secure the lead quickly.  By the end of the first half, Mohawk wasn’t making it easy for Beaver Falls with a score of 37-17.  In the second half, the Lady Tigers still weren’t able to cut down their deficit, and the score was 53-25 going into the fourth. Ultimately Mohawk didn’t ease up and will move on with a final score Mohawk 61 Beaver Falls 31.

Beaver Defeats Knoch 3/9/21

 

In the first quarter Beaver came out playing hard taking a 7 point run but Knoch Didn’t give up to many with the score after 1 Beaver 10 Knoch 5.  The Bobcats scoring minimal point and The Knights scoring minimal its was kept close game with the score at the half The Bobcats 19 The Knights 10. Knoch was missing a bunch of baskets into the third which gave Beaver the advantage to score a bunch with the score after 3 Beaver 32 Knoch 14. In the fourth quarter of the game Both The Beaver Bobcats and The Knoch Knights both score the same amount of points Bringing the Final score to Beaver Bobcats 40 Knoch Knights 22.

Neshannock Advances!

 

 

 

The Neshannock Lancers defeated the Beaver Falls Tigers 40-33 tonight to move on to the WPIAL Semi-finals later this week. The game started out pretty even as both teams struggled to score a basket in the first quarter, resulting in a 8-4  with Neshannock leading. But, the second quarter was all the Lancers as they started the second quarter with a 9-0 run. The Lancers took a commanding lead going into the half up 21-6, and outscored the Tigers 15-2 in the second quarter. Despite the big lead the Tigers stormed back in the third quarter outscoring the Lancers 20-9. But, it was not enough as the Tigers ultimately could not complete the comeback falling 40-33.

Pirates acquire RHP Underwood in trade with Cubs
BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired right-hander Duane Underwood Jr. in a trade with the Chicago Cubs. The 26-year-old Underwood went 1-0 with a 5.66 ERA in 17 games with Chicago during the pandemic-shortened season. He was designated for assignment on Tuesday. The Cubs received minor league first baseman Shendrik Apostel in the deal.
