The Aliquippa Boys have won the section championship tonight with a stirring defeat at home over the Avonworth Antelopes by score of 53-47. They were tied 11-11 after the first quarter but controlled the action the rest of the way. They swept Avonworth both times they played this year. The Quips finish the regular season at 7-1 in section 2 3A and 10-5 overall heading into the WPIAL playoffs.

Pitt F Toney to transfer, second high-profile exit in 2 days
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh junior forward Au’Diese Toney is transferring, the second high-profile departure for the Panthers in as many days. The decision came a day after teammate Xavier Johnson announced he was entering the transfer portal. Toney averaged 14.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists and is considered among the better defenders in the Atlantic Coast Conference. He missed Pitt’s last game, a loss to Florida State last Saturday, while recovering from a concussion.

The Beaver Bobcats Girls basketball team defeated the Blackhawk Cougars 34-32 on a last second shot by, Maddie Weiland to win Beaver the game. Despite the low scoring game it was a hard fought game that came down to the wire. Blackhawk was leading for most of the game even going into the fourth quarter up 25-19. But, the Lady Bobcats did not give up and turned the game around in the fourth quarter. Resulting in their 34-32 win and the continuation of their undefeated season.

At Quaker Valley High School in section 2 of 4A the Quakers romp over Central Valley 62-33. Quaker Valley improves to 10-3 on the season and the Warriors fall to 10-3. With the win QV moves into first place with a 9-2 section record. The players of the game for both teams, for Quaker Valley it was Markus Frank, and for Central Valley its was Jayvin Thompson
The Quips and Antelopes were both undefeated in their sections coming into tonight’s game, and it proved to result in an exciting, close game. In the first half, Aliquippa fell behind Avonworth and had to play a game of chase. The quips were able to bring it to a one point deficit to finish out the first half 22-21 Avonworth. In the second half, the Antelopes were still maintaining their lead and keeping Aliquippa fighting from behind. When the 4th quarter came around, the Quips fought hard and were able to finally take the lead. Aliquippa ultimately came out on top, finishing the game 51 Aliquippa 48 Avonworth.
