PITTSBURGH (AP) — Jesper Fast scored 9 seconds into the third period to break a tie, Sebastian Aho followed with his 22nd goal of the season and the Carolina Hurricanes edged the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 on Sunday to move into first place in the Metropolitan Division. Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Jordan Staal also scored for Carolina, which never trailed in the first meeting of the season between the teams that entered the day tied atop perhaps the league’s most competitive division. Sidney Crosby, Bryan Rust and Evan Rodrigues scored for Pittsburgh.

Keselowski Leads Jack Roush Back to Daytona’s Victory Lane

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Brad Keselowski celebrated a sweep of the Daytona duels as he debuts with his new team. Keselowski took an ownership stake in Jack Roush’s organization and rebranded as RFK Racing. Keselowski drove the flagship No. 6 Ford to a win in the first 150-mile qualifying race for the Daytona 500. Chris Buescher won the second race for RFK and he and Keselowski will start side-by-side on the second row Sunday. A team owned by Floyd Mayweather Jr. qualified for the Daytona 500, and 52-year-old Greg Biffle came out of semi-retirement to make the field for upstart NY Racing. Biffle will be the oldest driver in the field when he makes his 15th start in the 500.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby is the latest member of the NHL’s 500-goal club. Crosby reached the mark with a power-play goal in the first period of Tuesday night’s game against Philadelphia. Crosby is the 46th player in NHL history to reach the 500-goal plateau and the 18th to do it with one franchise. He is the second Penguin to score 500 goals, joining Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Sidney Crosby scored his 500th goal and Pittsburgh teammate Kris Letang capped a late rally to send the Penguins past the Philadelphia Flyers 5-4 in overtime. Crosby became the 46th player in NHL history to reach the 500-goal milestone when he beat Carter Hart from the goal line on the power play at 16:34 of the first period to give Pittsburgh a 2-1 lead. Crosby’s teammates poured over the bench in a raucous celebration after the 34-year-old joined Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux as the only Penguins in franchise history with 500 goals.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Rams carried off the crown jewel in a venue built for champions by winning the Super Bowl trophy. It took a precise 79-yard drive capped by Cooper Kupp’s 1-yard touchdown reception with 1:25 remaining for a 23-20 victory Sunday over the Cincinnati Bengals to give the Rams their first NFL title since the 1999 season and their first representing Los Angeles since 1951. They did it in their home, the $5 billion SoFi Stadium, making the Rams the second consecutive host to win the championship after Tampa Bay became the first ever a year ago.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Brian Boyle scored the tiebreaking goal early in the third period, Tristan Jarry made 28 saves and the Pittsburgh Penguins kept rolling with a 4-2 win over the New Jersey Devils. Mike Matheson, Bryan Rust and Jake Guentzel also scored for the Penguins, who won their third straight overall and sixth straight on the road. Pittsburgh improved to 7-1-3 in its last 11 games. Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier scored for the Devils. New Jersey had scored seven goals in each of its last two games, both road wins. But the Devils nonetheless fell to 3-8-0 in their last 11.
Geneva Falls To Washington & Jefferson In Afternoon Barnburner

When the ball tipped off at Metheny Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon, it featured the two hottest teams in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference…and the two rivals showcased why.
Despite drilling 16 three-pointers and eclipsing over 100 points for the first time this season, the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes fell to Washington & Jefferson by a score of 111-103 on Senior Day. Senior Matt Veynovich had six of the three-pointers for Geneva, and he finished with 20 points on the afternoon. The Tipton brothers–junior Lyle and freshman Trevor–each led Geneva with 23 points a piece. Amos Luptak, another senior, and junior Ryan Rachic each had 15 points for Geneva.
W&J–now winners of six straight–were led by sophomore Michael Bigley who had 26. He was joined in double figures by Nick Gearhart (23), Kyran Mitchell (20), Isaiah Langston (16), and Okikiola Agbale (14). The Presidents outscored Geneva 80-24 in the paint, and stay atop first place in the PAC (with Chatham) at 13-2 to go with their 18-4 overall record. Geneva’s loss drops them to 10-5 in the PAC–tied with Westminster for third–and their overall record stands at 12-9.
Eden Christian defeats Rochester 44-36
Eden Christian took on Rochester as conference play wrapped up in WPIAL basketball. Eden Christian started off leading the game until Rochester stole the lead in the second. With Rochester leading to start the second half, Eden Christian made some big plays and managed to regain the lead. Rochester couldn’t get the lead back and the game ended in favor of Eden Christian with a final score Eden Christian 44 Rochester 36.
