Mohawk Football Game Against Quaker Valley Canceled this Friday as DA Continues to Investigate Hazing Reports

(Jackson Twp., Lawrence County, Pa.) The Lawrence County District Attorney’s office is continuing to investigate reports of hazing on the Mohawk High School Football Team and that means that the Warriors will not play again this Friday night against Quaker Valley.
Both the varsity and junior varsity teams have been inactive since August 19 and will remain inactive until at least September 4, which means they cannot practice or play any games
The school district is cooperating with the investigation.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Oneil Cruz, Tucupita Marcano and Bryan Reynolds all tripled and scored, and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-0 to end a seven-game losing streak. The Pirates won for only the third time in 16 games. They also snapped the Phillies’ six-game winning streak. The Pirates became the second team this season to hit three triples in a game. Noah Syndergaard took the loss for the Phillies. Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto caught two runners stealing.

Trubisky Makes Case for QB job as Steelers top Lions 19-9

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Mitch Trubisky staked his claim to be the Pittsburgh Steelers starting quarterback, throwing for 160 yards and a touchdown in a 19-9 win over Detroit in the NFL’s preseason finale. Trubisky was at his best late in the first half, leading the Steelers on a 92-yard drive that ended with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Steven Sims. Rookie Kenny Pickett played well in the second half for Ptitsburgh but it appears Trubisky has the inside track to be the starter when the Steelers begin the regular season in Cincinnati on Sept. 11.

Beaver Falls Strolls By Blackhawk 22-7

(Chippewa Twp., Pa.) The Beaver Falls Tigers went to Blackhawk Friday night for their first game of the year and played good defense keeping the Cougars off the score board until very late in the 4th quarter. Beaver Falls jumped out to a quick lead and got out to a fast 22 point lead, but then the cougar defense stiffened up and kept the tigers off the score board the rest of the game. It was a good game for both teams to work the kinks out before the regular season gets started.

Western Beaver Defeats Beaver 20-7

(Beaver Pa.) In a game ripe with penalties and turnovers, Western Beaver managed to score three times in the last three minutes of the first half. Beaver tried and failed to get themselves back in the game with just one touchdown in the second half.
