Keselowski wins in Atlanta
Brad Keselowski overcame a loose wheel issue and held off Kyle Larson late for the victory in the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 on Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway in the second race of the 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season.
Keselowski passed Larson with seven laps to go and held off the hard-charging Larson for the win. The win is Keselowski’s first at Atlanta and the 22nd of his career. The Team Penske driver led 21 laps on the day.
The dominance of Harvick was the story for much of the day as he led 292 of the first 311 laps of the 325-lap race. He won both stages and earned two playoff bonus points.
Keselowski has now clinched his spot in this years chase , NASCAR’s version of the play-offs later this year. The victory also gave Keselowski five bonus points in the chase.

5A Boys’ WPIAL Final: Moon 69, Hampton 62
The Moon Tigers earn the inaugaural 5A Boys’ Championship in WPIAL Basketball, winning 69-62 over section foe Hampton at the Petersen Events Center on Beaver County Radio.
Moon’s win was the fourth WPIAL title for the school district in boys’ basketball, and its first since 2006.
The Tigers will now try to double their gold in the PIAA Playoffs, and their journey begins against Franklin Regional. The Talbots will have a re-match with Mars in their PIAA first-round match.
Antonio Ionadi (Hampton) and Jarrod Simmons (Moon) were selected as the CCBC Players Of The Game.

4A Girls’ WPIAL Final: CW North Catholic 65, Blackhawk 36
The Trojanettes of Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic added to their historic resume with another WPIAL Championship, defeating the Lady Cougars of Blackhawk 65-36 in the 4A Title Game on Beaver County Radio.
The #1 seeded Trojanettes earn their 17th WPIAL title in school history, while #2 Blackhawk earns silver medals for the second time in the finals; their first loss was in 2001.
CW North Catholic will now play Keystone Oaks in the first round of the PIAA Playoffs, while Blackhawk will play Freeport.
CWNC’s Sam Breen (34 points) and the Lady Cougars’ MacKenzie Amalia (9 points) were selected as the CCBC Players of The Game.

Penguins Add Defensmen, Lose To Chicago
The Pittsburgh Penguins were active at the trade deadline, adding Frank Corrado and Mark Streit to the defensive depth while dealing Eric Fehr and Steve Oleksy to Toronto.
Unfortunately the Penguins were not active in the win column, dropping their second consecutive game in as many nights, losing to Chicago 4-1. Scott Wilson scored the lone Pittsburgh goal, while Richard Panik scored the game winner and Patrick Kane added a hat trick for the Blackhawks.
The Penguins stay tied for second place in the Metropolitan with Columbus, and return to action Friday night against Tampa Bay at home. Tampa Bay defeated Carolina in the only other NHL game last night, winning 4-3 in overtime.

Lincoln Park Seeks 2nd WPIAL Championship Tonight
The Lincoln Park Leopards will play for the 3A Boys’ championship against Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic tonight at the Petersen Events Center on the Pitt campus, at 9:00 on Beaver County Radio.
The Leopards are seeking their third WPIAL Championship in school history (2012 & 2014), and 11th overall championship for the Midland area. The Trojans are looking for back-to-back titles (winning in 1A last season), and their fourth WPIAL title since 2009.
Pre-game is at 8:30 on WBVP & WMBA.
New Castle 61, Central Valley 33
The New Castle Red Hurricane used a lopsided second-quarter to propel themselves to the WPIAL Finals, as they cruised to a 61-33 victory over the Central Valley Warriors in the 4A Boys’ semifinal at Ambridge HS on 1460 WMBA.
Central Valley ran out to a 7-0 lead early, and took a 11-10 lead into the second. But New Castle would make a run of their own, outscoring the Warriors 25-4 in the frame.
The #1 Red Hurricane will play #2 Quaker Valley in the WPIAL Finals on Saturday, while the #4 Warriors will rest for the PIAA Playoffs that begin next week.
Geno Stone (NC) and Michael Simmons (CV) were named the CCBC Players of The Game.

Quaker Valley 68, Beaver Falls 50
The Quaker Valley Quakers showed the pedigree of dominance they had shown all season, beating the Beaver Falls Tigers 68-50 in the 4A Boys’ semifinal at Moon Area HS on 1230 WBVP. Quaker Valley, despite allowing the deficit to be cut to as low as one, never trailed during the course of the game.
The #2 Quakers earn their first spot in the WPIAL Championship since 1997 and will face #1 New Castle, while the #3 Tigers wait for the state playoffs to begin next week.
The Quakers’ Wolf Moser and The Tigers’ Josh Creach were selected as the CCBC Players of The Game.
