Rochester falls to Union in Barn Burner 18-16


Rochester met Union at Freedom Bulldog Stadium for a Single A  WPIAL Semifinal matchup. The rams got on the board first with a 6 point lead in the first.  Union responded with a touchdown and two point conversion. After back and forth action between the teams in the second half, Union led late in the 4th 18-16. The Rams were stopped on their final drive with an interception that gave Union the win. Union will move on to Acrisure Stadium with a final score Union 18 Rochester 16.

Five Local Teams Looking To Punch Their Tickets To WPIAL Championship

Before it “all comes down to this”, five Beaver County teams will have make one final push in order to battle for WPIAL gold next week at Acrisure Stadium. Rochester, South Side Beaver, Beaver Falls, Aliquippa, and Central Valley are all just 48 minutes away from a trip to Pittsburgh, a date with destiny–and for a couple teams, a rematch to the stars.

A rematch will be in order tonight for the Rochester Rams (7-4), as they play Big Seven foe Union (9-3) in the Class 1A Semifinals tonight on 99.3 FM, 1230 WBVP and the Trib Live High School Sports Network. The last time these teams met, the Scotties broke a scoreless tie in the final minute to down the Rams on Homecoming night. Now the #14 Rams look for revenge coming off of a 30-14 quarterfinal victory against #6 Fort Cherry, while the #10 Scotties look for the season series sweep coming off of a 30-28 upset of #2 Laurel. Bruce Frey and Eddy Crow will have the call from Bulldog Stadium in Freedom tonight, with pregame at 6:30 and kickoff set for 7:00 PM.

On 95.7 FM, 1460 WMBA and Trib Live tonight, there will also be a rematch…albeit one calendar year in the making. #1 seed Aliquippa (10-0) looks to return to the championship game as they battle #5 McKeesport (11-1) in the Class 4A semifinals. This is the second consecutive year that these two teams have met in the semis, with the Quips outlasting the Tigers in last year’s contest by a score of 27-21 in double overtime. In this year’s playoffs, the Quips enter tonight’s contest following a 41-7 walloping of #9 Montour, while McKeesport last week knocked off #4 Armstrong by a tally of 41-21. Mike Azadian and John Perrotto have the call from Canon-McMillan for tonight’s contest, with pregame at 6:30 and kickoff set for 7:00 PM.

Here’s all eight contests for tonight’s WPIAL semifinals, the winners move on to the championships at Acrisure Stadium (formerly Heinz Field) next Friday. All games tonight are at 7:00 PM:

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Sidney Crosby had two goals and two assists for a season-high four points and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Minnesota Wild 6-4 on Thursday night. Ryan Poehling, Kris Letang, Brock McGinn and Jake Guentzel also scored for the Penguins and Tristan Jarry stopped 19 shots. Pittsburgh is 3-1-1 after losing seven straight. Joel Eriksson Ek scored twice and Brandon Duhaime and Matt Dumba added goals for the Wild. Filip Gustavsson, filling in for the injured Marc-Andre Fleury, made 26 saves.
