Lincoln Park Defeats Highlands To Move On In Class 4A State Playoffs 84-72
The game started out with Highlands playing much better than they did the last time the teams met, they were able to control the pace of the game and slow the high powered Lincoln Park Leopards and keep them off the boards. At the end of the first quarter both teams were running neck and neck with Highlands out in front 14 to 13,both teams under their average score. Highlands was winning on the rebounds but they were turning the ball over along with Lincoln Park both teams with some sloppy play and If they were looking for a way to upset the Leopards it was looking like they may have found it, note Brandon Cummings scored all the points 14 to be exact in the second quarter for Lincoln Park, so that again is keeping everybody else in check. but as the strong get stronger Lincoln Park did as the game went on the Leopards turned up the volume and started playing faster and you could see the game going a little bit more in their favor. In the third quarter both teams were still neck and neck with a 36 36 tie and Highlands started to get sloppy with the ball maybe just getting worn down from the pace that the Leopards were starting to bring, and Lincoln Park got their biggest lead of the game by 6 points. The fourth quarter was mostly the Leopards putting pressure on the Highlands team that was unable to keep up with the speed of the game Meleek Thomas ended it with a dunk to end the game final score Lincoln Park 84 Highlands 72. The game was heard here on 95.7 f Fm and 99.3 Fm along with 1230WBVP/1460WMBA and world wide on Beaver County Radio by Mike Azadian and Frank Salopek, stay tuned for Blackhawk Girls 4A basketball playoffs at 5:30 here tomorrow on Beaver County Radio Wednesday 3-15-23 with Mike Azadian and Joe Sager on the call.

If you like exciting games that had two girls basketball teams playing a very competitive 2A basketball playoff game to advance in the state playoffs you would have loved this one. The Freedom Bulldogs trying to make it back to Hershey for the second straight year all most got one step closer but their season ended with a 20 win 5 loss record, they can be very proud of. Bishop Mcort jumped out to a 8 nothing lead , it seemed to be the story of the night with Freedom trailing most of the game , after one the score was the Crushers 15 the Bulldogs 12. Freedom was having some trouble solving the full court press and Bishop hit 3 three pointers in the first, and may have been just a little bit faster getting some open shots. Freedoms Olivia Henderson hit back to back three pointers, then Julz Mohrbacher took the ball the down the court to tie it at 21 then Morgan Keller hit a duce for the first Freedom lead 23-21. At half time it was the Crushers in the lead 31-Bulldogs 25. At the start of the 3rd quarter Julz Mohrbacher hit a left handed Bob McAdoo half hook shot with 4 players around here to get the Freedom crowd back to life with a roar of thee crowd it carried over to the fourth quarter where a very loud freedom crowd was cheering their team on, the Bulldogs out scored the Crushers 19 to 8, and with 4.2 seconds on the clock Olivia Henderson a very gifted 3 point shooter hit a long 3 point shot to tie the game up at 52 to 52. Make no mistake every single one of the Freedom players that went in to the game all played well and contributed to their great performance, although it did not go their way, the Bulldogs had a great season and another exciting game. Freedom Brings Home Silver Medal For Second Straight Year In 2A Girls WPIAL Championship Game They Lose 44-34
It started better than it ended for the Freedom girls basketball team as they drop a tough one against a team that was pretty much their equal , they split each with one win a piece against Shenango in the two games they played in section this year and they both averaged 55 points a game. It was a close game from start to finish with Freedom leading after the first quarter 12-11, at the start it was Julz Mohrbacher Bringing a rebound down and scored a basket then down under the hoop Morgan Keller stole a in bound pass and scored giving the Bulldogs a four to nothing lead, Freedom then went into a two one two zone to keep the Shenango Wildcats team out of three point range which was working. Shenango went in to a double team the Julz Mohrbacher defense and sometimes that was a triple team trying to keep here of the boards. Shenango was getting into foul trouble having 5 in the first quarter, Freedom was ahead 23-22 at the half and 29-28 at the end of the third quarter, but with about 4:20 left in the game and the score tied at 34 Mohrbacher was called for her fifth foul of the game and had to sit the bench for the remainder of the game which didn’t help their chances much and that was the end of offense for the Bulldogs as the Wildcats dug in and took the ball to the hoop, it was a great game between to evenly matched high school teams final score Shenango 44 Freedom 34. Easy Come Easy go Aliquippa Headed To The Peterson Event Center They Win 61-36
Aliquippa made it look easy as their play was turned up a notch, as they were out running their selves a little bit in the first with some turnovers, but the hustle paid off as Greensburg Central was getting a lot of resistance at mid court and the Quips were able to ward off the Centurions making them battle hard just to get off a shot. The game moved fast up and down the court with the Quips leading at the end of 0ne 17-6 with Quinton Goode getting 10 of his 24 points in the first. Greensburg played better in the second out scoring Aliquippa 14 to 13 but that’s all they could do as Aliquippa seemed to find yet another gear and strolled on home with a great win. Quinton Goode 24pts Cameron Lyndsey 10pts and Jase Williams with 8 lead the Quips on offense and T.K Hayes was a force on Defense, this was a very complete game for Aliquippa, the game was broadcast on 95.7Fm 99.3FM 1230Wbvp/1460WMBA and around the world on Beaver County Radio by Mike Azadian And Joe Sager, stay tuned this Thursday it will be the Freedom Lady Bulldogs Heading back to the Peterson Event Center To play Shenango at 6:30pm here on 99.3FM 95.7FM 1230WBVP/1460WMBA and around the world on Beaver County Radio that game will be broadcast by Bruce Frey and Frank Salopek.
