Pirates Agree to $13.5M. 2-Year Deal With All-Star Reynolds

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates and All-Star center fielder Bryan Reynolds have avoided arbitration, agreeing to a two-year deal worth $13.5 million. Reynolds and the Pirates were scheduled to go to arbitration after failing to come to an agreement on a one-year deal for 2022. Reynolds asked for $4.9 million, with Pittsburgh countering with $4.25 million. Reynolds hit .302 last season and is batting .227 through five games in 2022.

Gamel 3-run Homer, Hayes’ 4 Hits Lift Pirates Over Cubs 6-2

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Ben Gamel hit a three-run homer in the first inning, Ke’Bryan Hayes went 4 for 4 a day after getting a big contract and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Chicago Cubs 6-2 for a two-game series split. Kevin Newman hit a two-run triple in the third for the Pirates, who went 3 for 7 with runners in scoring position, a day after going 0 for 10. Seiya Suzuki was 1 for 3 with an RBI single in the fourth. He is 6 for 20 (.400) with three homers and nine RBIs in six games.

Seiya Suzuki’s 2 Homers Lift Cubs to 2-1 Win over Pirates

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Seiya Suzuki homered twice, Drew Smyly pitched five scoreless innings and the Chicago Cubs beat Pittsburgh 2-1, spoiling the Pirates’ home opener. Suzuki connected for leadoff shots in the fifth and seventh. One of the top players in Japan, Suzuki signed an $85 million, five-year contract with the Cubs last month. Smyly permitted three hits and walked none in his Cubs debut. The left-hander agreed to a one-year contract last month.

Pirates-Cardinals Game Postponed Today.

(St Louis, MI) Today’s Pittsburgh Pirates game  against the St. Louis Cardinals that was scheduled for for 2:15 PM has been postponed due to the weather.

The game will be made up as part of a split Doubleheader in St. Louis on June 14, 2022.

The first game will be on Beaver County Radio at 11:50 AM with first pitch at 12:15 PM.

Game two will have an air-time of 6:20 PM with a 6:45 PM scheduled start.

The Pirates will next be in action tomorrow, 4/12/22 at PNC Park for their home opener. First pitch is set for 4:12 PM.

Chavis’ Grand Slam Lifts Pirates Over Cardinals 9-4

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Michael Chavis hit a go-ahead grand slam as Pittsburgh overcame a three-run, third-inning deficit, and the Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals 9-4 for their first win this season. Chavis made his first start of the season and homered off left-hander Steven Matz, who allowed seven runs and nine hits over three innings in his first start since signing a $44 million, four-year contract. It was the second slam of Chavis’ big league career. He finished a triple shy of the cycle. Diego Castillo added three hits for the Pirates.

Waino, O’Neill Lift Cards Over Pirates In Pujols’ Return

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Adam Wainwright pitched six scoreless innings, Tyler O’Neill hit a three-run homer and drove in a career-high five, and the St. Louis Cardinals celebrated Albert Pujols’ return with a 9-0 season-opening win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Yadier Molina threw out a runner trying to steal second in the first game of his final big league season, and Nolan Arenado and Tommy Edman also homered for the Cardinals, who won the managerial debut of 35-year-old Oliver Marmol. Paul Goldschmidt drew four straight walks, the first player to do that on opening day since Manny Ramírez in 2002. The Pirates had just six hits and lost budding star Ke’Bryan Hayes to left forearm spasms in the first inning.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are building around third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes. A person with knowledge of the agreement tells The Associated Press the Pirates and Hayes have come to terms on a new eight-year, $70 million deal with the 25-year-old Hayes pending a physical. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because a formal announcement isn’t expected until the team’s home opener on April 12. Hayes batted third in Pittsburgh’s season-opening 9-0 loss at St. Louis on Thursday but exited with left forearm spasms in the first inning. He was limited to 96 games last year due to a left wrist injury.

Pirates SS Prospect Oneil Cruz To Start Season at Triple-A

BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) — Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Oneil Cruz will start the season in the minors. The team has optioned the towering 6-foot-7 shortstop to Triple-A Indianapolis in hopes of getting him more experience. The 23-year-old Cruz had put together a solid spring training, going 5 for 15 with two home runs in Grapefruit League play. Pirates manager Derek Shelton said the team believes Cruz needs a little seasoning before being called up for good. Cruz hit his first major league home run last October in a brief big league cameo.

Former Bucco Travis Snider Retires After Eight Big League Seasons

Travis Snider says he has retired after eight major league seasons. Snider turns 34 on Feb. 2. He last played in the major leagues in 2015 with Pittsburgh. He spent last season with the Atlanta Braves’ Triple-A farm team at Gwinnett and hit .174 with four home runs and 15 RBIs in 138 at-bats. Snider was the 14th overall pick by the Blue Jays in the 2006 amateur draft. He had a .244 average with 54 homers and 212 RBIs for Toronto, Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

Pirates Looking to Enhance Fan Experience with Outfield Upgrades

(Pittsburgh, Pa.) The Pittsburgh Pirates are looking to enhance the fan experience at PNC Park next season and are giving the outfield sections a facelift.

The changes expected will include new food concepts at concession stands, casual seating, tributes to iconic players in Pirates’ history, and more children’s play areas.
The upgrades are expected to be completed by next season.
