Two more local teams will punch their tickets to the Petersen Events Center for the WPIAL basketball championships tonight on Beaver County Radio. Game 1 pits Rochester and Quigley Catholic in the 1A Girls’ semifinals at North Hills, and pregame coverage begins on Beaver County Radio at 5:30. The second game of the doubleheader takes us to Canon-McMillan as Our Lady of Sacred Heart battles South Side Beaver for a spot in the 2A Boys’ championship. Coverage begins for that game at 7:30, and the winners of tonight’s games advance to the finals on Friday.

In a game heard on WBVP and TribLive it was Bob Barrickman and Bruce Fry on the call from Ambridge High School. Central Valley and Blackhawk girls meet for the third time this season, each team winning the first two games. Early in the game it was all Blackhawk. They jumped out to an 11 point lead heading into the 2nd quarter. Blackhawk built on that lead making it a 12 point game at the half. Then it was all Central valley in the 2nd half. They cut the lead to two points heading into the fourth then took over where they built a 7 point lead. Blackhawk didn’t go down easy. Making it a two point game late i n the fourth. after some made free throws Central Valley goes on to their first WPIAL championship game in their nine year history by a final of 55-48.

Eight tickets will be punched to the WPIAL Championships at Petersen Events Center tonight, and at least one Beaver County team will find themselves battling for gold this weekend. That will be unveiled in our first of two games tonight as Blackhawk & Central Valley play each other at Ambridge for a spot in the 4A Girls’ Championship at Ambridge. Coverage on Beaver County Radio begins at 5:30. Then in Game 2, the Aliquippa boys eye a return to “The Pete”, and they take on North Catholic for that bid tonight at North Allegheny. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00pm.
