An impressive matchup occured in this WPIAL championship game tonight. After a slightly slow start to getting points on the board, Beaver Falls found their groove and began to secure a dominating lead. Heading towards the end of the first half, Beaver Falls gained a 4 touchdown lead, with Sto-Rox unable to get any points. The halftime score was 28-0 Beaver Falls. During the third Quarter, the Tigers took their lead to 36 and kicked in the mercy rule against Sto-Rox. Ultimately, Sto-Rox decided to fight back and made a great effort to score points and lower the difference in the score. After Sto-Rox managed two onside kick recoveries and a few touchdowns, the score of the game ended with a score of 43-30 with Beaver Falls as the champions.
The Aliquippa and Thomas Jefferson matchup was one that was being talked about all season. Both teams challenged each other from the start of this game resulting in a scoreless 1st Quarter. During the second, the Quips managed to put points on the board gaining as touchdown and extra point. Thomas Jefferson responded and managed two scores on Aliquippa during the rest of the the second putting them in the lead 14-7 going into halftime. The second half included two more scores from Thomas Jefferson before Aliquippa managed to keep the ball moving down the field and make the scoreboard tied. The game went into overtime resulting in a score from Thomas Jefferson and an interception thrown by Aliquippa. The game ended in overtime with a score of 35-28 Thomas Jefferson.

Central Valley defeats Elizabeth Forward 35-0, sending the Central Valley Warriors to the State Playoffs once again. This is Central Valley’s fourth time winning the WPIAL Championship, since the merger of Monaca and Center school districts back in 2010. Central Valley struck first scoring on a 13yd touchdown run by Stephon Hall, after the Warriors defense forced a fumble on Elizabeth Forwards opening drive. Central Valley took a 7-0 lead going into the second quarter, after that it was Central Valley imposing their will on Elizabeth Forward. Scoring 21 points in the second quarter, all scored by Landon Alexander, the Central Valley Warriors continue to keep their foot on the gas pedal. In the second half Central Valley’s defense did not let up forcing 2 more turnovers in the second half, which ultimately sealed the victory for them. Central Valley will take the Bedford Bison next week in the State Playoffs.
