Jeannette 30, Rochester 20

Rochester and Jeannette met for the first time ever in the WPIAL Class 1A Semi-Final on Saturday night at Fox Chapel. It was history in the making.

But as Rochester was to find out, history-making does not automatically result in an outcome worth remembering.

A dominant third quarter by the #3 Jayhawks led to a 30-20 victory over the #2 Rochester Rams on WMBA tonight. Rochester took an initial 6-0 lead before giving up 30 unanswered through the middle quarters. Jeannette will play Clairton in the WPIAL 1A Final next Saturday. Rochester ends its season at 11-1.

Caleb Collins (Rochester) and Gio Vonne Sanders (Jeanette) were selected as the CCBC Players of The Game.

Steel Valley 42, Riverside 0

In Week 1, Steel Valley defeated Riverside 41-7.
11 weeks later, the Panthers got a rematch with the Ironmen.
The Panthers wanted revenge.
Instead all they got was a re-run.

#1 Steel Valley defeated #4 Riverside 42-0 in the WPIAL Class 2A semifinals at Newman Stadium on WBVP. It was the 12th straight game in which the undefeated Ironmen forced the Mercy Rule. Steel Valley will play Neshannock in the WPIAL 2A Finals next Saturday. Riverside ends its season at 9-3.

Riverside’s Kyle Marweg and Steel Valley’s DeWayne Murray were named the CCBC Players of The Game.

Aliquippa 42, South Park 7

Many changes came to the WPIAL Playoffs this year, including Aliquippa (and a host of others) moving up to 3A and playing only three rounds of playoffs.

One thing though that did not change was Aliquippa being #1 in the WPIAL Playoffs, and proving why in the first round.

The Quips cruise to a 42-7 victory over the #8-seeded South Park Eagles at Moe Rubenstein Stadium on WMBA. The Quips improve to 9-2 and will play Derry in the Class 3A seminfinals next Friday.

South Park’s Adam Morris and Aliquippa’s Xavier Fisher earned CCBC Player of The Game honors.

Rochester 39, Riverview 6

It’s been a while since the Rochester Rams made the WPIAL Playoffs (2012), but Gene Matsook’s squad acted tonight as if they’d never left.

#2 Rochester dominated the #15 Riverview in the opening round of the Class 1A playoffs with a 39-6 win on WBVP. Rochester improves to 10-0 and will face Imani Christian in the quarterfinals next Friday, site and time to be determined.

Nasan Tibbens of Riverview and Rochester’s Andrew Massey were named CCBC Players of The Game.
